Default Christmas lights...

Our children love Christmas lights.

It is a family tradition, every Christmas, to drive through
Nashville (and Belle Meade), Franklin (and Brentwood),
Murfreesboro and also to the Opryland Hotel to see the
incredible Christmas lights and decorations. Since our
daughter is a Winter/Snow Baby...she begins in January
making preparations to ensure that we know that we must
take she and her brother to see the lights in December.

This year is no different. We will see the lights and
decorations...(and a performance of the Nutcracker Ballet
will be thrown in for good measure, but she doesn't know
that yet. Don't tell her. That is all we will hear for the next
two weeks.)

Anyway, as far as corporations go...Opryland Hotel is
absolutely...well, words cannot describe what one sees
along the winding driveway and then once inside the
hotel walls. And then the Conservatory and the Delta!!!
It is incredible.

As far as individuals go, George Jones and Dolly Parton
go all out. (DP at her residence in Brentwood and in
Pigeon Forge at Dollywood. But George and Nancy Jones
take the cake!) George's and Dolly's residences sit in the
midst of large "estate" lots in multi-million dollar development
areas. George and Nancy Jones have a display which could
serve as runway lights for LA-X. Santa should have NO
trouble finding them every year. We just drove by their
home a few nights ago. On certain nights, George and
Nancy sit outside their massive perimeter gate and fence
and talk to the visitors and hand out candy to the children.
The ole' Possum really has a big heart.

Our kids went home sleepy and happy and jabbering about
what they had seen this year. And, of course, we will have
to go and see them several more times before Christmas.

But this makes me curious...and true to form, when I am curious
about something, I must inquire about it.

Are Holiday lights and big-scale displays a *big* deal in the
UK? If so, in what way? Do the better department stores have
large animated displays (like ours used to have...but have no
longer...?) >8^(

If you are ever in this neck of the woods during this time of
the year...make sure you drive past Dolly's and George's houses.
It will be well worth it.

I bid you love and laughter, but above these...peace.

Its a growing trend - taken very seriously by some - I went down one
local street on the last dark evening in November and saw Norman -
working hard in the pouring rain (severe rain even by Scottish
standards) - I did wonder why Norman was Gardening on a dark very wet
night in his so'westers . But Norman is Norman after all - The answer
came the next night (dry as it happens when I returned to Angus Gardens
and Wow - one heck of a light show - personally I like it - but his
neighbours are not all so enamoured apparently - hopefully Norman will
ignore them and do his own thing. Though his electric bill must get
higher in December I have been around local areas I didn't know
existed and seen a lot of light shows - but none that spectacular -
would do one myself (have thousands of spare leds - but heck we rarely
get 3 or 4 cars a night past here..)

I have to admit after Branson MO last march you Americans sure put on a
show

Seasons greetings to all.

Not really - unlike the thoughtless and self-obsessed people of the US we
tend not to go in for shamefull and profligate waste of scarce resources -
at least not to the same ludicrous extent.
It makes a complete mockery of trying to reduce pollution and save on fossil
fuel consumption.
The practise should carry a heavy fine.

Typical knee-jerk Coca Cola response.
If you choose to further pervert an ancient, twisted death-cult as an excuse
to consume and pollute then shame on you.
Some of us aren't so easily suckered.
Dickens was a complete arsehole who never got over the 'trauma' of having to
spend a few months in a workhouse.
Well, boo hoo hoo.
He played right into the hands of the greed and envy merchants - provided an
instant cliche and easy stock cop-out for the likes of yourself and billions
like you.
Some of us can see right through that crap.
It *is* all humbug - total and absolute bullshit in fact.

So you don't celebrate Santa' Birthday in the Whyte-Settlar household
then?

Fine, I'll cancel the presents I was going to send you.

Too easy Nige.
The views of the majority I feel - it's just that I have the honesty and
integity to admit it.
I know facts are very inconvenient for a blinkered Aberdonian romantic but
if you can spare a moment to check you will discover that the Xmas period is
the peak for suicide, murder, domestic violence, seroius assault and
admissions to mental institutions.
The selfish arseholes who take it upon themselves to inflict their egotism
upon the rest of us should be educated as to the fact that not everyone is
impressed by their pointless wastefull antics.
They make me ******* puke.

Maybe the peak in the bad stuff you mention is more to do with your type
of attitude than the season itself. To much anal retentiveness and you
burst?

Well - hang on a moment.
Perhaps I was a tad hasty
I could make an exception seeing as it's you.
Depends.
What is the cash value of the presents in stirling?
