Default Mair faces nor the toon clock?

Frae Auld Bob Peffers:
Nah! We had the old Goth picture house that had a town clock. The building
was a quite a beautiful stone built building with a tower and town clock and
looked nothing like a picture house. The local vandals, (no not the Kelty
tearaways, Fife Council), tore the building down. For many years Kelty
People campaigned to get another Town Clock. After the council tore down the
Regal Picture house, (not nearly such a nice building and a typical old
picture house. Fife council built their new Cooncil Office on the site and
erected a small insignificant clock on a stick thing that was a pretty poor
apology for a town clock. There's progress for you.

Frae Auld Bob Peffers:
How about this one, Helen?
Next year Kirkcaldy's Links Market is 700 years old. Local historian, Dr
Bruce Durie, (author of several books on local history), researched the
Links Market and found both the English King Edward I and Scotland's King
Robert The Bruce had almost certainly, "kicked their heels", at the, "Lang
Toun's", market in bygone days. Edward I is recorded as having lodged with
his ancestors at Scoonie Estate in Leven and at Rossend Castle in
Burntisland. The Bruce was certainly in the town when he granted the charter
for the first market in 1305. Bruce also had other local connections, owning
land at Kilconquhar, (I'll leave Helen to tell you how to pronounce that),
and Balgrummo.
For genealogists the Bruce line is at:-

I know Bruce from a KHS (Kirkcaldy High School) graduates group that I'm on.

Somewhere, on floppies, I have a lot of excellent information and pictures
on the links Market from articles written by a chap called Roy Carnell who
used to have a site called The Kirkcaldy Book.

Kinuchar The "u" is as in umbrella. That "ch" sound seems to be a bit of
a stumbling block for many and comes out sounding like a "k". Try clearing
your throat and you'll have it <G>

Cheers, Helen

Thank you Rick! My grandson, Adam, (8) who stays over every Friday talked my
ear off until after midnight. I thought he'd be dead to the world this
morning but he hit the floor running AND talking at 7:45 this morning. We're
on our way out for breakfast now and then I'm staying at his house with his
brother (14) and sisters (12 and 10) while their Mum and Dad have a weekend
away at Niagara Falls. Should be fun

Cheers, Helen

You know, Helen, I have never come across a non-Fifer who could pronounce,
"Kilconquhar", quite right as ",Kinuchar", even after expert teaching<G>

Capturing in this missive, in the sparing prose of Rambaud,
<bndttl$10ca2m$1@ID-207901.news.uni-berlin.de>, and displaying the suave
and sophisticated disposition of Archibald Leach, Helen Ramsay

What are they going to be up to in Niagara Falls that will be so much
fun, I presume barrels and going over in will not be involved? Or is the
stick the wrong way round?

I wonder Tom, I wonder. Find a site and read American news - the
reports are bleak as far as our military capabilities. Machinery we
have, trained manpower?
