Scotland's team qualified for the Euro 2004. The young laddie Darren Fletcher's goal wis a beezer. James Mc Fadden laid it on. -- Aefauldlie, Auld Bob Peffers, bob@peffers50.freeserve.co.uk http://www.peffers50.freeserve.co.uk/ --- Aa ootgannin screivings maun hae nae wee beasties wi thaim.. It sounded a better game than the England match. But not all that
convincing. -- Douglas Clark, Bath, Somerset, England .... Lynx: Poetry from Bath ...... ... http://www.dgdclynx.plus.com/lynx.html |

To be fair they did play very well but there were flaws that the old eyes could see very well. Having said that The old head knows there was not a lot stopping them being a very good team. Most of them are quite young. Also remember that McFadden and the young goal scorer are only just breaking through from the under 21s. McFadden in particular was magic in places. All that guy needs is just a little more experience. You know the kind of thing the magic winning the ball, the magic dribble round two or three defenders and then pass to the guy NOT in the best place in front of the open goal. These things come with experience. The thing so good about these young guys is their self confidence and belief in themselves. -- Aefauldlie, Auld Bob Peffers, bob@peffers50.freeserve.co.uk http://www.peffers50.freeserve.co.uk/ --- Aa ootgannin screivings maun hae nae wee beasties wi thaim.. Frae Auld Bob Peffers:
If I had a pound for every star footballer I saw doing things like that I would be very rich. Believe me I have watched a great many of the legends of the game. They all made daft errors. I have seen some real boo-boos but I have also seen some great things on the playing field.--- ~How about Hibs Bobby Duncan scoring a goal against top European side Napoli with a looping shot from the touchline one, (1), yard inside his own half. This in the days of the older, heavier ball. That game was true football magic Hibs came back from Italy 4-1 down and written off by the pundits. The manager of Hibs then was the Great Bob Shankley. He maintained Hibs could turn that score round and Pat Stanton, the Hibs' Skipper, swore that Hibs were never outplayed in Italy in spite of their heavy defeat. The game at Easter Road Kicked off and the Italians were kicking, pushing and punching from the very start. Within 5 minutes Bobby Duncan ran the ball from his own half and from over by the touchline, a yard over the half-way line, crashed it past the great Dino Zoff. The only guy in the park, including about 21,000 fans, not astounded was Bobby Duncan. Just on half time the Mighty, (Wee Pat), Quinn, then popped in a short one to make it 3-4 on aggregate. 20 minutes after the re-start Peter Cormack headed home a goal from a Scott corner to make it 4-4 ag., and Hibs still with a clean sheet, (away goals counted double if a tie) The Italian fans were losing the plot and rioting all round the pitch. The noise was deafening as fans roared the Hibs on. We were still celebrating when Pat Stanton bent low and headed home. 5-4ag. Next the big Italian defender, Girardo, (who had kicked, pushed, pulled jerseys and even punched just about every Hibs player on the park), got himself sent off after going over the top tackling Eric Stevenson and just after it was Eric Stevenson who crossed for Colin Stein to head home the last of the 5-0 on the night rout of Napoli. How about all those great goals that earned Lawrie Rielly the name, "Last Minute Lawrie". I Saw the Law/Baxter demolition of the then World Champs. I watched some of the finest readers of a game ever. John White, Pat Quinn and Bobby Johnston. The, "Ghost", was hardly noticed during a game but when he was not playing neither was the team. On the field he ran the game. By those standards Beckham isn't bad but just a learner yet. -- Aefauldlie, Auld Bob Peffers, bob@peffers50.freeserve.co.uk http://www.peffers50.freeserve.co.uk/ --- Aa ootgannin screivings maun hae nae wee beasties wi thaim..
