You played a good game and deserved to win. Now go and enjoy your
victory but please do not dig it up every six months for the next 40
years like the football world cup. There is only so much we can take.

Don't need to worry about that me thinks. The only reason 66 is brought up
over and over again ( in fact they even kept bringing it up in the
commentary yesterday and it's a different bloody sport) is because like
Spain (the other great under achievers of world football) they have never
come close to their one solitary achievement again. I would imagine Rugby
World Cup will be won by the men in white again long before 40 years has
passed.

cheers

Yes well done. In terms of global sporting significance it's right up
there with the Olympic gold won by the Scottish women's curling team.

Well done indeed.
However, I hope folk maintain a sense of proportion. As someone on the radio
has just said, they've got Blair off every hook he's on for the next 6
weeks....

Does that mean that Scotland can't mention Bannockburn either?

You could really start the ball rolling there though. The English wouldn't
be allowed to mention Agincourt, Flodden, Trafalgar or Waterloo :-)

(And I know only one of those battles was fought against the Scots, but you
get my point)

Actually two of those battles were fought against Scots [Flodden and
Agincourt] and the other two were British rather than English forces
involved.

I don't know about that. If it wasn't for Maradonna and his "fist of
Gawd" in '86 they may have gone all the way.

And there was I thinking for all these years since I was taught about it
