Default One South African

Over the years I have chosen to expose my life as one South African
to a degree of scrutiny on this forum.

I share what I do, more or less how much I earn and what I spend
that money on, what I buy, what I eat, what I think and the way I
spend my leisure time.

My life is not representative of anything except how one
middle-aged, white, English speaking South African does the above.

If anyone finds this offensive, feel free to block my posts which
will contain details of my life. Boring or otherwise.

I really don't have a problem with you Moira, contrary to what
you believe. Your cyber-persona however is the matter in
question, and one that appears to have been lead astray. Now I'm
sure that you (not your virtual persona) have a number of very
redeeming and good qualities, but I don't believe that they are
visible through your postings here.

By focussing only on the trivial issues associated with the
priveledged, white South African, you run the risk of alienating
and suppressing the more significant issues of poverty, aids and
white oppression experienced by the majority of South Africans.
It is rather like "fiddling while Rome burns...", where one
becomes so self-obsessed and inner-focussed that your
environment could implode and you wouldn't even notice.

On that note let me wish you well and good luck in your future
endeavours - whatever they may be. Perhaps in time you will
reflect on my writings and look deeper into what you are
actually portraying within this online community. Sounding your
own trumpet is no way to progress in what is a cruel and
treacherous world. Go incognito... below the radar.. quietly in
the background. This approach is more likely to get you noticed -
and the thing you seek so desperately - Acceptance.

My best

Paul

Are you *genuinely* suggesting that you are unaware of my
humanitarian work track record? Up until a few months ago I
dedicated my *life* to HIV work and poverty. Just for good measure
I *lived* in a township in Mbabane, Swaziland as a missionary.

I actually don't care if I'm "accepted" or not by people I don't
respect.

I happen to know I'm loved and accepted by the people who are
important to me.

AAAAAAH BUSTED - Yes I know who you are Moira - you are Pieter Dirk Uys!
Trying out a new personality - That spiel above really gave the game away.
Yes and now I know who Paul Lowe is - he is John Cleese trying to get a line
on SA humour.

You are just reading what Moira is living through at the moment. If you
google her you will see that she also reported in the same vivid way her
first hand experience of AIDS in Swaziland over more than a year. None
of us lives like James Bond or Mother Theresa all the time.

Are you suggesting that my current life has a hint of "James Bond"
in it? :-)

The people that have been subjected to my posts for a long time (I
started posting in February 99) will know that I have managed to do
a great deal of humanitarian work by day and theatre by night (which
was, in itself humanitarian work).

I originally acquired my theatre contacts because from 1994 I ran a
group called "OASIS" which was a support group for the carers of HIV
positive people, designed to provide them with an evening out at the
theatre. By 1999 the group was no longer purely for HIV workers but
included HIV positive people. When I left The Salvation Army in
February 2002 I disbanded the OASIS carers group, although The
Salvation Army has left the door open for me to return to that
particular ministry should I so desire.

I still do a lot of the sorting out of lives at various levels and
I'm still involved in HIV work at Baragwanath Chris Hani. I just
don't post about it because it is probably genuinely boring. Tragic,
but boring. And depressing.

In article
<554588c601d6aa77f3da869a01f508ae@msgid.frell.ther emailer.net>,

No one is oppressed by whites in SA because the whites have no power. If
you are going to claim that the whites are still in power due to a
higher per capita income then you will have to claim that the Jews are
the real power due to their per capita income.

Gunnar Myrdal started this whole trend of claiming that the richer
groups must have more political power no matter what evidence there is
to the contrary and it just doesn't hold up.

Moira used to work in AIDS prevention and seems to have been moved out
due to her race. If you look at her very old posts she and the rest of
the crew here were very involved with the important isssues of SA. One
by one they stop posting or become like Moira and try to distract
themselves from the depressing inevitability of SA becoming just like
the rest of Africa. I don't think you can blame them. You can only bang
your head against the wall so many times before you mutter "africa wins
again" and head towards the bar.
