Look after Britain

COUNCILLOR Barker is absolutely right (Letters, June 19), and it is a
tragedy most of the authorities and much of the public don't seem to realise
it.

When faced with increasing evidence of robbery, violence, vandalism and
burglary people shrug and say: "That's the kind of society we live in," and
accept it. The Government and some local councils do very little, and the
law is almost impotent. The judiciary is now hamstrung by fears of
litigation and European interference.

Young thugs and vandals are not allowed to be properly punished any more, by
parents, teachers, or the police, so the law is laughed at. "Six of the
best" would soon put a stop to mindless vandalism as well as saving the
expense of running detention centres. Why provide board and lodging at
public expense when a just and proper chastisement would do the job a lot
better?

Great Britain used to be "great"; now the name is an embarrassment. The
country is becoming an "also ran" as well as being a soft touch for all
those who can't or won't sort out their own countries' problems. A town in
the south of England recently cancelled hospital appointments because "we
have been told to give priority to asylum seekers".

Looking after the interests of the British people would be far more
praiseworthy than strutting the world stage for personal vain glory. If
people like Colin Barker were running the country we would all be a lot
better off, and we might even become "Great" Britain again.

Comment:

Although I did not see the article from Councillor Barker. This
article speaks for itself. It is high time those in power got a grip on
things before it is too late. Everyone has had enough and if something is
not done to deal with the malaise in society we will have extremism.
