Can we do something about this? The C-SPAN email address is journal@c-span.org The Traditional values coalition is at http://traditionalvalues.org They have a "contact us" link, which has an e-mail form. ----- Original Message ----- -Subject: Can we do something about this? -From: SM -To: <ramn@adelphia.net> -Date: Monday, July 14, 2003 This is SM in Birmingham. Yesterday, Sunday the 13th of July, on C-SPAN's Washington Journal, there was a woman called Andrea Lafferty. She is the Executive Director of a group called the Traditional Values Coalition. In the course of her replies and comments on viewers calls, she made the following comment. "Because America is based on Judeo- Cristian values, Hindus are allowed to worship here and Muslims are allowed to worship here. However, this is not the case in India and Pakistan, Christians are not allowed to worship." I think it is really important that we refute her statement in a timely fashion, and if possible make her retract her statement. I am planning to write to C-Span, but am not sure if that is enough. Do you have some suggestions? Thank you SM SAM'S LETTER TO C-SPAN On C-SPAN's Washington Journal, Andrea Lafferty asserted that Christians are not allowed to worship in India. This is an outright falsehood, which I request she correct. I am an Indian and a Hindu, who went to school all her life in a Catholic School in Mumbai, India, one of hundreds of thousands of schools run by Catholics & Protestants in India. I have a large number of friends who are Christians, who worship as freely in India, as do the Moslems. India celebrates Hindu, Moslem, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and seek holidays. We have a state that is Majority Christian, and we have a state that is Majority Moslem. Our army and Navy and Police allow for he differences in religion, and Sikhs for e.g. are allowed to wear a turban, as their religion demand, instead of a hat. India is probably the most liberal and the most accommodating country in the world when it comes to religious practices. This is not least because it is based on Hindu principles. Hinduism believes that all paths lead to salvation unlike Christians. I am not sure where Ms Lafferty gets her information on India from, but clearly she is not getting it from a reliable source. I hope she will prove that she is indeed a Christian and revoke her false statements about India promptly. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - End of forwarded messages Jai Maharaj http://www.mantra.com/jai Om Shanti Panchaang for 18 Ashadh 5104, Wednesday, July 16, 2003: Shubhanu Nama Samvatsare Dakshinaya Nartana Ritau Kark Mase Krishna Pakshe Buddh Vasara Yuktayam Dhanishtth/Shatabhish Nakshatr Ayushman/Saubhagya Yog Bav/Balav Karan Chaturthi Yam Tithau Hindu Holocaust Museum http://www.mantra.com/holocaust Hindu life, principles, spirituality and philosophy http://www.hindu.org http://www.hindunet.org The truth about Islam and Muslims http://www.flex.com/~jai/satyamevajayate o Not for commercial use.
