Cola Turka Storms the Market; Coca-Cola and Pepsi Slash Prices
Istanbul, TURKEY, July 19, 2003 - Cola Turka's dramatic entry into the billion-dollar
Turkish soft-drink market has sent American giants Coca-Cola and Pepsi reeling,
prompting major price-cuts.
The price of a 2,5 litre bottle of Coca-Cola, TL2,5-million [US$ 1.75] last month, has
been reduced to TL1,75-million [US$ 1.23]. The company started to give away with every
six-pack purchased and free soda worth TL1-million [US$ 0.70] for free every 2,5 litre
bottle bought.
Pepsi is also trying to keep ahead of Cola Turka, which being sold at TL-1,85 [US$
1.30] million in markets. Pepsi cut the prices of Pepsi Cola and Pepsi Twist to
TL1,75-million [US$ 1.23] and gives away 1,5 litres of soda for free.
Ulker Institutional Communication Director Sedat Sozudogru said, "We are happy to
create this competition in favor of the consumer." Coca-Cola Institutional Director
Timucin Tuzecan, without commenting on the promotion, said, "We are a company that
likes competition. Let the consumer decide."
