Default Removeing or replaceing 99 ram cupholder

The Cheap piece of &^%#(%@ dodge calls a cup holder that flips up in the
dash of my 99 quad cab truck has broken one of the little plastic parts
off and I cannot get the thing out of the dash. My only other option is to
spend the $85.00 to replace the dang thing or try to fix it myself. ANY
suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

If a piece of plastic cupholder is that important to you, you need to
re-evaluate your priorities in life

Politics, the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from
the rich.

I have a 2001 RAM, when I used to take it into the DODGE dealer the
tech told me that the two weakest points on the truck were the rear
end & transmission. The transmission went out at 42K, they forgot
about the cupholder. Mine also broke off where the plastic hinge
meets the tray. (Min Poodle jumped on it) I pulled the piece off and
took it to the dealer and asked for a replacement. That is when I was
told it would be $87.00 for the whole unit. The fix is posted at:

Look under the interior group. Pics are posted.

we hate the damn cup holder.... too big for just 2 cups and always
squeaked when it was down...

I built a center console out of scrap paneling that sits on the hump
and wedges between the seat & "cup holder" part of the dash, so I can
remove it if we ever have a middle passenger..

It's just a flat top box with non-slip tool box mat on top and a $5
wally world "between the cushions" cup holder thing...

The main reason that I built it is that it was tough to find a place
to mount a brake controller under the dash... and once it was mounted,
there was no place at all to put a CB or power inverter, so they're
mounted to the "box"...

Can you e-mail a picture of that to me? Right now I have my CB mounted to an
"L" shaped piece of 3/4" plywood. The horizontal bottom section lays flat on
the floor and slides under the center seat section, and the radio is mounted
to the front side of the vertical section. It works well, but there is no
room on it for anything else like a brake controller or power inverter. My
setup does clear the cupholder when it's down, but it puts my coffee cup
within spill range of the CB.

You might want to look at a center console piece on a manual transmission
truck... 'cuz.. these plywood "L"s and scrap panel boxes sound ugly!

My 2001 5-speed doesn't have any cupholders on the dash, but there are three
built into the plastic console around the shifter. It isn't so big that it
wedges between the seat and dash, so you'd need to anchor it some other way. A
CB and brake controller would probably fit in the space that the shifter
normally occupies. An inverter, if not too bulky, could fit in the hollow space
underneath.

Geno's has a cup holder that ties into the console or whatever you want to
call it.
