While true, that is not completely correct. It has lost some traction, not
all. Sometimes enough traction is lost where the force being applied is no
longer enough to move the vehicle but that is not always the case. How many
times did you light up the tires on your Vette and I bet that it still
moved. If all traction was lost, then it would have just sat there and the
tires would spin and never got warm. As long as you have friction, you have
traction. and the only question is, do you have enough.

Just to throw a little "gasoline" on this discussion, last Sunday on SPEED
channel they showed a rally(e) from Sweden on snow.
I only watched a couple minutes but sure looked like those cars had FWD the way
the front tires were throwing rooster tails
And those guys were really throwing the cars sideways and "drifting"
The announcer claimed they hit 120 on the "straights" of snowpack
Now if having the front wheels drive and steer on snow/ice is bad, those guys
certainly don't subscribe to that theory

I enjoy watching those road rally races. They are usually on dirt, mud
and/or snow. Most of the cars are all wheel drive. Lots of mods and you
are right, they fly!

Could be, yet every so often the camera shows the driver yanking up on the
"handbrake" to lock up the rear wheels to set up for a turn.
There would have to be a "disconnect" to the rear wheels?

Maybe viscous coupling between front and rear? BTW, speaking of AWD,
have you guys seen the new commercial for the Subi STI? 0 to 60 in
5.4 seconds with some great video of AWD power slides.
