starting problem
Hi all,
'92 Dodge W150, 4x4, 318 Magnum, auto trans.
Over a year ago I started having starting problems, turn the key and nothing
would happen. No clicking, no slow turn, nothing at all. Dash lights come
on but would go out when key turned fully forward. Seemed that running the
shift selector up and down a couple times would help so I had the neutral
safety switch replaced. Didn't help. Went to a different garage and they
replaced the ignition lock cylinder, this didn't help. Same garage finally
found a leaking freeze plug that had been leaking on the starter (and was
supposedly shorting it out). Replaced the starter and that worked for a
couple weeks. Now back where I started (less about $700) and still having
same problem. Again, running the shift selector up and down once and it
starts fine.
Anyone have any thoughts? Could it be a simple shift linkage issue? If so,
shouldn't the garage have caught it a few hundred dollars earlier?
