Hello all.

I was wondering if anyone here has had this trouble.

There is a short that causes both the taillights and dash lights to blow
their fuses. Everything else works fine. This just started happening. Is
there a "common" problem that I can check for, or am I going to have to bear
the cold, and crawl around with my millimetre?

This is on my friend's 89 Dodge ram p/u. Any advice or links of wiring
diagrams would be greatly appreciated!

how nice to see that you are standing by, waiting to hump my leg like a
well-trained pooch

I've got more than a 'clue' about troubleshooting electrical problems, as
anyone who has been here since before
your rabble-rousing days will tell you.............and I'll be more than
happy to tear your sorry ass to shreds when you make a mistake in your
'advice'

so go ahead, big talker, show your BIG BRASS ones, give it your best shot

This is why tail lights and instrument lights are typically on the same
fuse -- so you'll know when the tail lights aren't working. Look for
pinched wiring in the rear, near one of the tail light assemblies. I'd bet
on some cargo getting loose and causing the problem.

Ok. Thanks. I will check that.

But it is to my understanding that the truck has a seperate fuse for dash
lights. I think it is a 4 amp.

Welcome. 4A would seem about right. I would be surprised if the tail
lights & instrument lights were on separate circuits. Otherwise, you might
find out the hard way that you have no tail lights.

You're not going to rip anything shade tree except maybe your own pants
as you bend your fat ass over picking up aluminum cans along the
highway. Now give the man a answer to his problem or is this just more
of your bs. BTW, I didn't say I knew what his problem was, you did stupid.

Chevguy,

Does the truck have a trailer hitch and associated wiring? If so I would
suspect the trailer wiring before anything else.
