I have a 1997 johnson venom 200 h.p outboard, does anyone know what the
spark plugs should be set at? and can different types of oil cause the
motor to smoke more? and could I have a failing VRO pump that is causing
my motor to smoke.

More than likely it just smokes upon initial operation & then the smoke
clears up?

yeah Warren just when it starts up and at low Idle, what should this
motor idle at? it's aroudd 800 rpm should I dial it up a bit. And I went
to a cheap bass pro oil could that cause more smoke, I used a more
expensive Johnson oil before.

Hate to butt in but I would stick with whatever oil that they recommanded
for your Johnson maybe save a bit in oil but the engine $$$$$$ IMO

Don't sweat the smoke thing bud, it's perfectly normal on those carbeurated
outboards. It results from storing/trailering in the trimmed-up position.
