does anyone own, or know of anyone owning a folding boat, do you or they
like or dislike it?

There's a yahoo forum group that is about Porta-Bote. I believe it's
started by the company or turned out to be very pro-company. I'd been
hoping for years to find a cheap one used in my locality. But the way
the company management treated some recent complaints has made me
figure it'd have to be a very cheap Bote for me to buy it.

Hop over to yahoo, join the group, read the posts and you'll see that
most people are very happy with their Botes. However, for those who
are not happy, the company suddenly can only say, "ship it back to us
and we'll look at it." or "our customer care number is 800 ******x."

I'd advise buying one from a dealer in person (recent shipping
complaints, though that'll probably change soon) and having the dealer
set it up and show it to you while you're right there and taking the
one you're shown. I'd not buy the newest model (the 14 footer) as it
seems to have a bit of fine tuning by the company or the owner needed.
Maybe it'll all get straightened out in a couple of years for the 14
footer.
