I owned both a 1997 and a 2003 Expedition. Both were reliable, comfortable,
and very capable vehicels. The 2003 got slightly better gas mileage, but for I actually preferred the 1997 (it was more "trucky"). A good source for information on Expeditions is the Expedition Owner's Mailing List. See http://mail.xpog.com/mailman/listinfo/expedition . For a 2003-2004 Expedition I would make sure the power windows, power seats, power adjust pedals all work. Check the operation of the 4WD system. Take a good look at the transmission fluid (should be pinkish, not brown). Listen to engine when it is dead cold and make sure there are no noticeable tapping noises (potential sources are: piston slap, valve lifters, exhaust leak). In general the 2003+ Expeditions have been very reliable. Ed |
