Default any opinions on ford expedition?

I want to buy a used 2003-2004 large SUV (mainly looking for
expedition/tahoe/tundra or even lincoln navigator). I was wondering if
anyone has a suggestion/opinion on ford expedition... especially reliability
of them. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I owned both a 1997 and a 2003 Expedition. Both were reliable, comfortable,
and very capable vehicels. The 2003 got slightly better gas mileage, but for
I actually preferred the 1997 (it was more "trucky"). A good source for
information on Expeditions is the Expedition Owner's Mailing List. See
http://mail.xpog.com/mailman/listinfo/expedition .

For a 2003-2004 Expedition I would make sure the power windows, power seats,
power adjust pedals all work. Check the operation of the 4WD system. Take a
good look at the transmission fluid (should be pinkish, not brown). Listen
to engine when it is dead cold and make sure there are no noticeable tapping
noises (potential sources are: piston slap, valve lifters, exhaust leak). In
general the 2003+ Expeditions have been very reliable.

I had a 1999 Expedition. Traded it in with 96K miles for a 2005 Eddie
Bauer Expedition. The 2005 now has 45K miles on it with no problems.
Repeat, no problems.

The 1999 got 11-12 mpg city and 17-19 highway. The 2005 gets 12-13
mpg city and 18-20 mpg highway (60 - 70 mph). At 75 to 80 mph it gets
15-17 mpg (Houston to Palm Springs, CA on I-10, have done it 3 times
in the last couple of years going to see my USMC son leave/come home
on Iraqi tours of duty).

I love the power in the three valve 300 hp 5.4L in the 2005. It will go any
speed (have had it up to 125 mph just to see).

I had to do front brake jobs every 35-40K miles on the 1999. Havent
had to do one yet on the 2005 but it may need it by 50K.
