Just wondering if the rumors finally came true that ford is dumping the
ranger?

Discontinuing the 3.0L was the best idea yet. Why waste money on having
3 engines in the truck? No fuel economy gains using a 3.0 vs a 4.0.

They should have never had a sportrac, and kept the explorer the same
look as the ranger, and had a 4 door ranger model.

Decisions ford makes are just beyond me.

On the brighter side, the F100 looks much more promising. If they can
ram in a small diesel from Land Rover, or even the 4.6L in this, it
would make a very appealing truck!

Likely Ford will somehow put a crappy engine in the mix, or a
transmission plagued with troubles like they did in the rangers.

No, it's still in production. There are spy shots on the web of the 2010 US
version. No announcement from Ford either way.

There is my exact point.

Why would ford need the sporttrac when they already have a ranger with 4
doors right in front of them. all the R&D money must be rolling in from
the canadian and american gov't to fund rolling an excessive number of
vehicles off the lines.

An interior and exterior far superior to what they are working with
now... I mean really, the 1993 body style really should go...

Not to mention:

two completly different vehicles. the "euro ranger" is a vehicle produced
for the european market, not the north american market.

the ranger pickup is the north american market vehicle.

By the looks of it, the euro ranger would fit the NA market better than
the dinosaur they are using now.

Just seems it would better fit the market, especially in the current
economic condition.

I could cut the sporttrac, and one of the Edge, Escape, Taurus X, make a
4 door ranger and still offer nothing less than they do today.

Oh, and how bout my favorite... the flex... who;s buying those? This
will be shelved and not bought just like the Honda Element.

Ford does actually buld a full four door version of the US type
Ranger, they just don't sell it in the US. It is available in Mexico.

Nice truck. Not for me, but it makes sense. which begs the question,
why not in NA? Why stick the sport trac in there?? They don't drop the
F150 and make some other rimrack car like they are doing with all their
midsize and small cars.

Then they talk about dropping the crown vic from production... since
what.. 2002? Well boys, you better keep the F150 and the vic around...
they're the only stable mainstay you got goin for ya. Too bad when gas
prices go back up, but at least they are stable. I don't know the
finances of the fleet purchases... but there must be a certain security
to it...

Why did the explorer ever deviate from the ranger style anyway? Why the
waste of money in developing a second line.

Now talks of bringing back the Bronco... sure it might look cool, and
might be a good truck, but theres just too many models... Is 2010 really
the right time to bring it back?? I am not sure.... maybe wait 5-10
more years until things stabilize.... or it will most certainly flop.
Ford needs to get focused and lean to make it through the next 10
years... the economic turn around isn't going to happen over night and
more and more models canning old ones bringing out another barrage of
new ones isn't going to help. this slowdown is real... and people
aren't going to be fooled by a ranger with new fog lights in the bumper,
nor will they be fooled by dredging up the plagued Taurus nameplate and
sticking an X after it.

Look, I like the jap crap as much as ford, but the difference is -- they
have a vision of the future, and a plan to get themselves there. You
just don't see Honda and Toyota picking up and dropping vehicle lines
like they're changing wives. They are focused on improvement, and
focused on the customer. Ford somehow has lost this in their chip foose
renditions and revamps stepping on the toes of their current customers
and reaching for others. Ford is going through badges, names, face
lifts and overhauls like a 16 year old in a Mexican brothel.

You get a ford, theres a good frigging chance that in 4 years when your
lease is up the model you have has been discontinued only to find 2 more
have taken its place.

I dunno boys... I got 2 fords in my driveway, a honda, and another ford
antique in storage... next buy my 3/1 might got to a 50/50 split to
another mfg.
