Default ranger jerks

Hi all.

My 94 Ranger automatic with Overdrive jerks at 55 MPH when I slowly
accelerate going up an incline. The jerking stops when I press the gas to
the floor. It's like is can't down shift unlessa I floor it. It runs smooth
in city driving and doesn't hesitate when starting from a stopped position.
Any ideas?

Don't forget wires. My 93 Intrepid started jerking and surging on the
highway.
Cruise was unusable. But it ran fine around town and up hills on the
highway.
Mileage was a bit low, under 16, but I just figured that was because of age
and 150K. Did the normal tune-up. O2, plugs, filters... Mileage came up,
just over 20, but it still didn't behave on cruise. Put in new wires and
the
problem cleared right up and went to over 25mpg on the highway.
