Default Ranger randomly shuts off

Hey guys, my 2002 Ford Ranger 5 Spd. will randomly shut off while iím
driving. This typically happens once I shift into neutral and slowing
down. I havenít checked anything yet, I just wanted to get some
input.

Well, first off I would not call something that happens when you do
something specific "random." Is it doing it at other times too? It sounds
like you like to put it in neutral when you come to a stop. Do you not use
compression braking? Do you have your A/C on when it happens? I'm thinking
perhaps the idle speed is too slow and maybe something like a dirty IAC or a
vacuum leak could cause this. Have you recently done anything to the
engine? New belt perhaps? Is your air cleaner really dirty?

Another possibility might be a bad ignition switch.

Vacuum leaks are common causes on the Ranger. The ends of the hoses turn
rock hard from the slightest stretch over the fittings and split wide
open.

You shouldn't be switching the truck to neutral when you are slowing
down. Instead, use the engine to slow down and put the clutch in
neutral when the RPMs drop.

My 2002 Ranger did this; it happened sporadically, then regularly. Finally
it would not start. Turns out the fuel pump was shot (with only 7K miles on
the truck).

My 92 explorer just started doing this, this month. Twice today. The
first time i was accelerating down a road and it just died. I might have
been mid shift. The other when i was pulling into a parking spot, i
might have put it in neutral with the clutch down. I cant remember
exactly. Ill take a look at the fuel pump per Jay's experience. Ill let
yall know what i find.

check the AIC ( idle air control ) if it is dirty or failing it gets
sluggish and allow the idle speed to drop so low that the engine shuts off.

I had this happen, many years ago, to a Porsche with an electric fuel pump.
Turned out to be a wire to the fuel pump broken inside the insulation.
Something to check.
