Temp gage reading low

Any way to differentiate whether problem is failed thermostat vs. failed
sending unit without replacing one or both.. Has slowly been drifting down
over several years.

sender units very common for failure.if youve got heating on full whilst
driving you should be toasty warm ,and if the gauge reading low it could
be telling porkys.
