Default More on Keto mod

I saw a thread on Keto, earlier, and thought I'd contribute. I've been
playing with Keto in my group for a few RL days. I took the quick
route to Spellhold, rescued Immy, and am back in the city doing the
side quests before going after the Lanthorn.

Comments:

1) The two objects taking up backpack slots are annoying . One for
"flavor" is nice. Two is just annoying. If at least one did
"something", that would be good . I know this was discussed earlier
in the other thread. Now Keto has a pack of letters, which promises to
do something at some point (include memories), but, doesn't do
anything _now_. Three slots???

2) In my version of the bardic competition, twin girls performed.
"All" I experienced was the two girls, making sparks off their hands.
There was no sound, or text. Is this a known issue, or, unique to my
game? (The other performances appeared to go as planned)

3) Keto and Immy occasionally exchange dialogue about how Immy envies
Keto her ability to always stay cheerful, and Keto tells Immy she
hasn't completely forgotten it, herself. Should this banter occur more
than once? It's occured five or six times, in my game.

4) Related to #3, that dialogue first occured without even a "Hi, I'm
Keto, I've heard so much about you, Imoen" dialogue. Shouldn't the
girls have had an in-game banter to "meet" before having such an
intimate conversation?

5) How come Keto doesn't offer to recite poetry/tell a story every now
and then? She told the kobold story at first meeting. And, there was
her story in the bardic competition. But, I had sort of expected
taking Keto, the Banter Queen of Bards along, meant that there would
be bardic performances every now and then (like maybe...5-10
banter-performances over the life of SoA).

6) My 12 year-old son (who's been spectating through much of this play
through) felt Keto's "low blow" against Anomen was a great idea . So
did I .

7) It was sort of hard to find the woman who triggers the bardic
competition (she's off in a side room of the inn). It might be
advisable to move her over where the merchants hang out (main room,
far right). Alternately, the boy who gives the message (Scrap?) might
say "Give your invitation to Miss <name>, she's waiting for you in the
kitchen of the Inn" (or stable, or whatever room it is).

8) Is Penny Madrigal a spoof of Conrad Birdie in "Bye Bye Birdie"? I
can't put my finger on it, but, something about that reminded me of
the movie. I liked "all" the competitors I got to meet in the inn,
but, Penny really cracked me up!

9) The older couple at the competition were hysterical. I loved the
comments about economy, gravy, etc. Also, how a wife might be inclined
to stab her husband in the back for forgetting her birthday.

All in all, I'm enjoying the mod!!! Great job. I look forward to Keto
getting her memories back and seeing how the rest of the character
plays out.

: 1) The two objects taking up backpack slots are annoying . One for
: "flavor" is nice. Two is just annoying. If at least one did
: "something", that would be good . I know this was discussed earlier
: in the other thread. Now Keto has a pack of letters, which promises to
: do something at some point (include memories), but, doesn't do
: anything _now_. Three slots???

Yeah, we know. The letters in particular are a problem... we want you to keep them so that she can read
them in TOB, but obviously three slots is a difficulty. Hopefully you'll stick them in a bag of holding.

: 2) In my version of the bardic competition, twin girls performed.
: "All" I experienced was the two girls, making sparks off their hands.
: There was no sound, or text. Is this a known issue, or, unique to my
: game? (The other performances appeared to go as planned)

It's a musical performance, and Bons and I have disagreed about how quiet it is. You seem to be falling
into the "it's very quiet" camp.

: 3) Keto and Immy occasionally exchange dialogue about how Immy envies
: Keto her ability to always stay cheerful, and Keto tells Immy she
: hasn't completely forgotten it, herself. Should this banter occur more
: than once? It's occured five or six times, in my game.

Known bug, sorry about that. Will be fixed in V3.

: 4) Related to #3, that dialogue first occured without even a "Hi, I'm
: Keto, I've heard so much about you, Imoen" dialogue. Shouldn't the
: girls have had an in-game banter to "meet" before having such an
: intimate conversation?

Notice that doesn't necessarily always happen as it is. That said, yes, perhaps a sort of "So, YOU'RE what
all the fuss has been about" conversation would be a good addition.

: 5) How come Keto doesn't offer to recite poetry/tell a story every now
: and then? She told the kobold story at first meeting. And, there was
: her story in the bardic competition. But, I had sort of expected
: taking Keto, the Banter Queen of Bards along, meant that there would
: be bardic performances every now and then (like maybe...5-10
: banter-performances over the life of SoA).

Odd, because she should be telling more stories. She should be solicited for a tale in an inn, and tell the
PC another story or two.

: 7) It was sort of hard to find the woman who triggers the bardic
: competition (she's off in a side room of the inn). It might be
: advisable to move her over where the merchants hang out (main room,
: far right). Alternately, the boy who gives the message (Scrap?) might
: say "Give your invitation to Miss <name>, she's waiting for you in the
: kitchen of the Inn" (or stable, or whatever room it is).

Odd, because he's supposed to say almost exactly that.

We want her set apart from the group because we want you to talk to the rest of the bards before committing
to the performances.

: 8) Is Penny Madrigal a spoof of Conrad Birdie in "Bye Bye Birdie"? I
: can't put my finger on it, but, something about that reminded me of
: the movie. I liked "all" the competitors I got to meet in the inn,
: but, Penny really cracked me up!

Penny is Bons's creation. I'll ask her.

: 9) The older couple at the competition were hysterical. I loved the
: comments about economy, gravy, etc. Also, how a wife might be inclined
: to stab her husband in the back for forgetting her birthday.

Also 90% Bons's work on those two, and yeah, they're great.

: All in all, I'm enjoying the mod!!! Great job. I look forward to Keto
: getting her memories back and seeing how the rest of the character
: plays out.

Great. Thanks for the note!

# them in TOB,

So the quest is the last bit of her plot in SoA?

# It's a musical performance, and Bons and I have disagreed about how quiet it is. You seem to be falling
# into the "it's very quiet" camp.

Er, yeah. I thought it was a conceptual performance (no sound).

A couple of other things about Keto's quest:

(1) can you automatically turn off the weather during the competition?
(2) when you have her win by telling that mirror story, the dialogue
afterwards alludes to her 'how I woke up without my memory' business
without ever having laid it out.

# Plug plug plug Keto is at http://www.pocketplane.net/keto plug plug plug.

Great mod.

Yes. She may still have banter and so forth, but there won't be any more major "aha" moments.

: A couple of other things about Keto's quest:

We try to do so, repeatedly, at like the beginning of every cutscene sequence. The engine seems to fight us
a bit.

: (2) when you have her win by telling that mirror story, the dialogue
: afterwards alludes to her 'how I woke up without my memory' business
: without ever having laid it out.

We tried to cram as much exposition as we could into her reunion for that eventuality... any more and it
seemed like you'd be reading foreeeeeeeever. Would it help if we added it to her new biography?

Did you not get the "what does your name mean?" dialogue with her? That's another chance to get her to talk
about how she found herself.

: Great mod.

Thanks.

Is there a reason why she needs both pipes and wine bottle as single
objects? They don't _do_ anything, right? Couldn't you maybe put them
into one graphic? I don't mind sacrificing one slot "for" Keto's
flavor. Minsc has one 'locked' slot (boo). Edwin has one (necklace).
Imoen has her belt in the dungeon of SoA. It's _two_ locked slots
that's somehow unpalatable. The letters come and go, so, at least it's
my choice where she carries them (or if she carries them at all).

It wasn't just quiet. It was non-existent. I turned the sound _all_
the way up on my speakers.

Okay. it could have always been a conflict with one of the b'jillion mods I've installed.

Yeah. It would be nice. In trying to account for all the permutations
of how people can play things out, NPC's sometimes get speedingly
"intimate". It can be jarring.

Are there variables I should check?

The message sort of came and went fast, but, I thought it was a bit
more generic than that. Like "Give your invitation to Miss <name>"
she's waiting for you in the inn" with no details as to which _part_
of the inn.

If that's not what it says, then, maybe it needs to linger on the
screen a little longer so that

That made sense and it was a good plan. I would have headed straight
to start the competition if I had been able to find her, simply
because I wanted Keto "happy" with the speed with which I moved. NPC's
also have a tendency to either enrage or at least walk off, if you
don't do things on "their" schedule.

I did. I supose I'm glad I did because I think discovering my
traveling companion had lost her memory and _not_ told me up until
that point would have been even more jarring than her dialogue with
Imoen telling her to buck up, she can be cheerful if she just puts her mind to it.

Yeah, definately. My complaints are basically fiddly little issues.
The overall mod is very solid and enjoyable.

Why would they have all, or even most of their conversations in front of
CHARNAME?

Isn't there some 'graphic' option in BG2 that allows movies
to be subtitled? When switched on, all spoken text in movies
also appears in the text box below the main window. I always
use it and I'm very sure that the invitation did appear in the
text box.
