You'll need to download the 1.4 upgrade patch first. (68megs)

You'll probably want to download the DesertCombat Mod and a few maps, but
all you need to get started is the patch and the optional DC mod.

Yup, all you need is the 1.4 patch, from battlefield1942.com.

I would recommend getting just that set up, and getting used to "Vanilla"
(just plain Battlefield 1942) before you try to get the Desert Combat mod
going too.....

Just my opinion.

Actually, if you just want to play single player, you don't really "need"
the 1.4 patch, but it's probably a good idea. If you're looking to play
online, though, you certainly need it since more than half of the servers
out there are patched now.
