Default City Governors .. apparently gone mad?

I turned these on (vanilla Civ3) with the idea they would control the
population attitude for me, and save me a job .. however they seem to
have decided to control all production, and want to churn out endless
supplies or Privateers and Jet Fighters, and =I can't figure out how to
get control back= .. I really want them to ask me before building
=anything=.

Any hints anyone - the manual appears pretty useless on this topic.

theres a second page to the governors that allows you to select what they
build automaticaly... It should still ask you want to do though.

think theres something like "manage production" you should have off in the
governors screens

While you are viewing a city screen type "g". The governor menu
should pop up letting you make selections for that city or all cities.
I think you want the manage production part to be no. There is also
another option that only asks when the last thing built wasn't a unit.
That is the option I use. Then I just go the first advisor screen and
look for the cities building units and switch them to what I want.

I got it to work eventually, but I think what did it was quitting and
reloading the game. Weird.
