I'm playing BTS with the Cultural Victory allowed. However I can't
understand why I haven't lost. The Sumerians now have three cities with over
50,000 culture points, which I understood was the condition for 'Legendary
Culture' and a cultural victory, yet the game goes on! I am playing the
French. Could it be because Paris has around 65,000 culture points - do the
three cities have to have the highest culture values of all cities? Or could
it be because I am playing on Epic speed, in which case, how do I know what
Legendary Culture is at this speed? F8 doesn't help much, it says no more
than the manual.

Look at the culture progress bar; it will probably tell you that on Epic, a
city's culture goes legendary on 75,000. Of course, there may be some other
factor at work, depending on your settings, but I don't think so.
I agree that the Civilopedia should be more helpful about this.

Cultural Victory thresholds require you to have three cities with Legendary
culture levels, defined as:

Quick - 25,000
Normal - 50,000
Epic - 75,000
Marathon - 150,000

Thanks for the help.
I've just finished the game with a Domination victory. Had I realised they
needed 75000 points I would have played it differently and won it sooner but
won anyway.
