An Amazon using a thrown weapon with a shield, same set up on switch if that
is the way to go. Years back I had one that was very good till Hell and then
everything went south. If possible some clarification on strength and
dexterity skill point distribution, with advice on the correct placing of
points in the skill trees. I'm looking for a place to start and have not
decided to go single player or on bnet. No hard core, have read toooooooo
many tales of woe!!!! Thanks, Jerry

Same strength and dex for basically EVERY build in existence, other than
eshield sorcs. In other words, enough strength for gear, enough dex for gear
OR max block, depending on personal preference. If you go max block, you'll
want really want Stormshield. My javazon doesn't have max block, but the
choices is yours to make.

Depends on if you wanna go pure lightning, or hybrid. Mine is a lightning
build, has 1 in each passive/magic skill(this gets them to lvl 14 or so with
my gear, some people recommend getting Valk to 17 with gear), max Charged
Strike, Lightning Fury, Lightning Strike, and Power Strike, rest in
Lightning Bolt. Charged Strike is your main boss/single target killer,
Lightning Fury is your main mob killer, Lightning Strike is your main small
group killer. You'll have 1 point in Jab as a pre-req, use it vs lightning
immunes, it works fine for that purpose(esp if you have a little crushing
blow on your gear somewhere).

If you are going to build her in SP, I _seeeriously_ advise you to
make her a hybrid, or you are going to find lightning immunes just too
big a PITA in Hell. You won't have good gear, and while you will
easily kill everything that isn't LI with just CS and LF maxed, LIs
will stop you cold. A decent Freezing Arrow on switch lets you stop
the LIs cold, instead. If you find a Ko (not too hard to do), Melody
makes a decent bow, or if you are a little bit luckier, a Lem will let
you make Passion, which is excellent. There are also half a dozen
decent-to-excellent unique bows out there. I've found hybrid zons
quite viable soloing in Hell (HC), while pure lightning builds can't
do it without either some teammates or substantial twinks.

Can I still saved this one?
I just entered Act III, Level 24, Strength-57, dex-51, vit-61(life 280),
power strike=18-129, throw=22-65
with 11 pts to use.
Skill trees: Bow and arrow=0, Passive and magic= 1 point in all except,
critical strike, penetrate, pierce, and valk, Javelin and Spear, each in
Jab, poison jav, lightning bolt, plague javelin, charge strike, 4 pts in
power strike. with 10 points to use.
My merc is a fire arrow=level, damage 18-42, defense 326 she has been
steady, want to keep her.
Using a alternative attack will work for me, with other characters I've had
trouble with lighting immunes, in hell it seems everyone is lightning
immune. Thanks for the advice, I'm having fun so far.

If you must have an alternate attack, I'd use jab.

Likewise. I have a fondness for tanking Javazons - max LF and Jab, low
Str, high Dex, high Vit. I had one in 1.09 that could pretty much take
anything except for PI MSLEBs.

Minimum one point in all passives, enough in Valk to cast her at 17.

You can still go hybrid, just stop putting points in Power Strike and
switch to Charged Strike. But if you want to go with Jab instead of
Freezing Arrow as your alternate attack, you can just ignore the bow
tree. Personally, I don't like melee chars and IMO Jab will not be
very useful without a kickass weapon, which you are not likely to find
or make in SP.

Yeah, the problem with using Jab for LIs is that they are often LI
because they are LE, and meleeing with them is nasty.

In SP, how is he going to get (and equip) a powerful enough weapon to
make Jab kill LEs in a reasonable time in Hell? I don't see it
happening without twinks.

I agree with Roy.

In Hell you will run into dual immune monsters. So in order to progress
expediously you will need three credible attacks. Your Javazon will be
primarily lightning based, and you can depend on your mercenary to deal
physical damage. So you will personally need a third damage type. Cold, in
the form of Freezing Arrow is a good alternative.

Playing SP you cannot depend on other players, or specialized gear, so you
need to plan your build to deal with dual immunes. You won't need to deal
with dual immunes with any regularity till Hell. so you can pump up your
primary attack till late NM. But come Hell, you will need a third damage
type, so plan ahead.

Also, a wand with Lower Resist charges on weapon switch is VERY nice. It
will break the immunity of some monsters, and speed killing of others a
great deal. And they are easily shopable. Further, it's cheaper to buy a new
wand than to recharge an existing wand, so check the vendors often and buy
them whenever you see one.

Regards-
Mark
