Been on hiatus, not wanting to play because of the impending ladder reset,
which, like true communism, is just on the horizon (defined as a line that
recedes as you approach).

Here's an OT question for the day: in the mini-series, Tinker, Tailor,
Soldier, Spy, there's a scene in a hotel bar in Lisbon, when Ricky Tarr is
checking out Boris. There's a wonderful singer in the scene; does anybody
know who she is and what she is singing? (Yes, I tried Google.)

Hey Shaun,

Yes, I looked through the IMDB pages for it, and the luser-comments; there's
credits for everybody except the singer there--most frustrating. It's the
sort of thing I'd expect Mickey just to know, somehow.

If you've not seen it, it has some truly fine acting, as does the sequel,
Smiley's People, also a must see. Watch them one after the other.

Hi Mark. Ahh, OK, no luck there huh? Perhaps when I watch it I'll know?
(BTW, Have you tried Google with the word 'lyrics' followed by a couple
lines from the song in quotation marks? That's worked for me a couple
times.)

I've found a torrent and have it queued up. Problem is, with my third-world
bandwidth and new seasons of most of my favourite series all starting last
month it could be a while until my bandwidth allows me to get it. I'll get
Smiley's People afterwards, thanks for the tip.

Since I don't understand a word she sings, that might be a problem. I know a
few languages, but not that one. Heh.

Woo! It does look somewhat like her, and I did think it was probably
Portuguese (a: since it's supposed to take place in Lisbon, and b: I know
a lot of Brazilians and I can't make out a word they say to each other
either, which is unlike me, as I'm generally good with languages).

Is it her? The photos I can find are not good enough to match (no dates
but this woman seems older than Amalia Rodrigues would have been in 1979),
and my web digging skills can't prove it either way.

Thanks a lot for your trouble; that's the closest I've got yet.
