I was using a Black Scourge when I found a Baranar's Star. Going under the
impression that IAS was high on the list of Smiter priorities, I replaced
the Black with the Star, figuring I'm still getting CB from the Gores. So
far, he's been pretty hardy. I'm learning how to use Smite lock, and to
always cast Life Tap first (got a rare wand w/ level 6 on it). Here are his
stats, and I guess I just want to know if I'm way behind the curve of
expected life and damage at his level:

Level: 71
Smite Damage (LCS): 1446-1480 (HS+Fana active)
Life: 932

Harly (sock w/26% ED jewel)
Chromatic ammy (28 res all)
Upped HoZ (sock w/pDia)
Crow Caw (15% IAS, 35% OW)
Baranar's Star (50% IAS - will be 70% when I can Shael it)
Lava Gout (20% IAS), Drac's on hand for level 76
Gores (15% CB, 15% DS, 10% OW)
TGods (just found, seems to help w/gloam types, and better than Bladebuckle)
No useful rings worn.

If I only had a Lo rune, I could make Fort or Grief, and if I had two I
could make both. Can the Hell hellforge drop Los?

Hell Hellforge only goes up to Gul. So that's 8 perfect forge drops
to cube up to a Lo. Though back in the day I used to trade ist's for
Gul's so I didn't have to have *perfect* drops. I was never
interested in trying to trade directly for a Lo, as personally it
seemed too likely that it would have been a duped one whereas a Gul
was a fairly reasonable rune to get that wasn't duped.
Of course, you may only get a Hel from a Hell hellforge. Don't know
how many hellforges I rushed mules to, but as best I recall there was
at least two full accounts, and some number of characters that got
created only temporarily for the rush.

To be honest, with a Black Scourge available, I wouldn't swap it out for
Baranar's Star _unless_ I was still Zealing away and levelling up.

No, Gul is the max.

I'd first concentrate on the armor BTW. Crow Caw is way not what you
want. Try to get an Um and a 3 socket Elite armor, and make Duress.
T-gods are actually pretty ok for UT, since a lot of the damage flying
around there is lightning based.

Your change didn't benefit you at all though, it actually hurt you. With a
Black scourge and lvl 20 fana, you need 35 IAS total to reach max smite
speed, with the 15 IAS on the Black, you're smiting at 7 fpa. With Baranar's
star, you need 78 IAS total to hit max smite speed. So at it's current IAS,
you're smiting at...7 fpa, with much less crushing blow


This seems awful low to me.

ED adds almost nothing to smite, better off with an Um or something.


I'd aim for a highlords. Highlords+Black scourge=max smite speed.


Get a Duress.


If you lose the Crow Caw, even Shael'ed your Baranar's won't be faster than the Black.

TGods is probably one of the 2 best belts available to a smiter.

Does the ias on the grief add to smite speed?

I tried using the calculator at:

And it doesn't seem to take weapon ias into account for smite speed (for
pallys anyway).

With fana at 25 and smite, it says 7 fpa. Do I need ias on another item to
reach the last breakpoint?

Is 6 the last break point? That is what this calc is telling me. Am I using
it wrong?

Yeah, I can prolly help on USWSCX too. Not runes (I lost all my mules as
well as a couple accounts of tricked playing chars) but I have a few itamz I
dare say I could part with.

My email works, 'though I don't check it often. Actually, I don't have much
stuff that would help a /Smiter/. I had a plethora of Griefs but, alas, they
were on an account that no longer exists, as were my Astreon's. I don't
think I even have a Durex. I pretty much always went for CoH over Durex.
(I've never built a dedicated Smiter, instead prefering to use Freezealots.
UT is a walk in the park for a well-built Freezealot using one-point Smite
and a freezer is far more fun to play in general gameplay than a Smiter IMO.
Weapon of choice for my Freezers has always been Stormlash, Last Wish or Eth
Cryptic Sword/Scourge Oath.)

Actually I might start a new SCX character. I can set aside the end gear
he's going to use and not 'waste' a single stat point. I've become
disheartened with my ladder characters since the 'reset announcement'. It's
just a shame that I lost my SCX buff enchantress, she made leveling a new
character very quick. My ladder enchatress has a +3 Enchant Ormus' Robes but
no +3 'chant stick to make Leaf in. Ain't that always the way?

I think you're using the calculator wrong. Weapon IAS is included in total
IAS for pallies. For WW barbs and shifter druids, ONLY weapon IAS counts so
it has it's own entry. For pallies, include weapon IAS in the total IAS box.

No, the ias on Grief is fine.

6 fpa is indeed max smite speed.

Me, too. It takes forever to smack down opponents in Hell Act I. How can
this be? I'm using the right weapon, the right shield, and most of the
right stuff. I happened to find an Alma Negra the other day, too. What's
your take on that vs. the upped HoZ? And what to put in it? I would think
the resists would go to hell in the exchange, but if the increased damage is
worth it, maybe I could work on resists in other gear.

Is this calculation right?

Min Smite Damage = (Shield Min Damage + (Damage +x) + (Holy Shield Min

According to calculator here

from Black, 15 from armor and 20 from gloves, with maxed HS and Fana,
already gives max frames. For that matter, so does the Baranar's Star in
that configuration, exactly the same.

An Um should be doable. I'll have two Hellforges coming up once I bring
this pally and his mule through the quests. Crossing my fingers.

I don't understand this, since that would be a net gain of 5 over the
current configuration. Caw = 15, Shael = 20, and it is currently showing me
that it is maxed either with Baranar's Star or a Black Scourge.

Well, that is good news. I thought it was a good find, but the cursory
reading I did suggested that a Javazon wants it really badly. Seeing that I
have muled a ton of Zon stuff, including some eth Titan's, maybe I'll take a
stab at that build after a while.
