Default Doom3 on loooow spec machine...

I'm running Doom3 pretty smoothly on an old 1.7 Celeron (with 512MB of
memory) and an ancient 32MB GeForce2 MX. I would have thought this to be
impossible...!

My system is a P3 933mhz with 512 RAM 9600XT vid card. It runs slow at
times, but overall I think it runs fine on my system

640x480, low details, no specular, no shadows, no bump mapping, no special
effects. I suppose... :-|

Good...
But would you really say a 933Mhz Celeron is enough for most ?

I too consider it's better to compromise framerate
over features, as long as you can still get a decent timedemo
around 30fps.. Which is probably not your case.

It is expensive to upgrade the mobo+CPU+RAM though.
Maybe too much for what Doom³ is worth, unless one is
planning on going there eventually... Then it's a matter of
finding the right price for the right technology.

When to upgrade..
either you're wealthy or you're a fan. but it won't be long until
DX9 games start to use the new features that makes
a 933Mhz Celeron a nomansland.

Not a priority for everyone indeed... Welcome.

Probably not. I haven't even checked my FPS . The point is I'm satisfied,
considering my system. I knew when I purchased D3 that it was a crap shoot
to even get it to work. Maybe it has to do with some of the system
configuration and other items on the hard drive. I considered myself luck
with the quality that I do get

You may have it *set* to high quality, but I seriously doubt your are seeing
very many of the actual visual goodies that 'high quality' entails, with a
GeForce 2 MX. What you are seeing as 'high quality' with your PC and video
card, is no doubt a far cry from what someone with a late model DX9 video
card is seeing, with those same settings. But if you're happy with it the way
it plays on your PC, then what the hell, eh?? :-)

I played it with my GF2ti and I think you will get a big surprise when
you get to delta. You will find it unplayable. If you claim it is
playable then you are definitely telling porkies.
