I've recently bought my first PS 2 system and I my first games I want is the
entire FF series. Right now I have FF 5, 6 (Anthology), 7, 8, 10,& Tactics and
I plan on getting origins (FF1 & 2), Chronicles (FF IV),& IX within the next
few weeks.

My question may sound strange, but I like playing the games chronologically,
not necessarily in order like play FF 7 then FF 8. Now I know that some of the
games were released in Japan differently than they were release here in the
states so, chronologically, what is the order should they be played in?

Also, is there a FF3 version for PS, I can't seem to find one?

North American versions of games simply weren't released. The numbered
releases are numbered in their original publication order. If I remember
correctly, FF Tactics was released between 7 and 8, although I may be
mistaken on that one.


The English version is in development, with no announced system or release
date.

Nitpick, but _Tactics_ is not a *true* Final Fantasy game, just as
_Final Fantasy Adventure_ and _Final Fantasy Legend_ (I, II, III) are
not *true* Final Fantasy games. (The latter are actually American
releases of Seiken Densetsu and SaGa [I, II, III], respectively.)

However, if you overlook this nitpick, you also missed Final Fantasy
Mystic Quest. That was released between 4 and 5, I believe.


1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. They were numbered in order of their
release. Remember, these are primarily *Japanese* games. The American
releases are the exception in this case, not the rule.


Not that I know of, but I'm still wishing for a _Final Fantasy
III/Dragon Quest IV_ combo in the near future.

Of course, my ham dinner might sail around the room first.

With the exception of FFX and FFX-2, aren't all the FF games set in
different worlds/realities? I don't think that there is a chronology,
except for X and X-2...

This is correct. (Well, I don't know enough about the "Final Fantasy
Legend" series to say if those were sequels. I've never had a Game Boy.)

I assume the chronology he's talking about is the order the games were
created.

But FFT was originally FFT. Therefore, it is an FF game. Though not
part of the FF series.

pretty much. I heard that the first FF here was like FF4 in Japan, or something
like that.

I may be wrong, but the games are definately fun to play.

FF1 was the first. FF4 was the second, released here as FF2.

(SaGa 1 was released here as Final Fantasy Legend for the Gameboy in
between.)

With J for Japan, and NA for North America, the Nintendo releases were

FF1 J = FF1 NA (NES)
FF2 J = not released
FF3 J = not released
FF4 J = FF2 NA (SNES)
FF5 J = not released
FF6 J = FF3 NA (SNES)

After that, Sony started releasing them with the correct (Japanese) numbers.
The numbers on the PlayStation editions are correct, although FF1 and FF2
were revamped with superior (to the original) graphics and sound.
