Chrono Cross was kind of like FF8 for me, a lot of really good songs, and a
lot of really boring songs. Like the song that plays constantly while you
are on that ship, or for FF8, the Fisherman's Horizon song, both extremely
boring songs.

I disagree. Mitsuda might be somewhat better than Uematsu's latest efforts,


Uematsu has done throughout his entire career, notably the song that plays
during the intro anime, the song that places during the credits (Small Two of
Pieces I believe is the title), and more. But I don't think Xenogears' OST can
compare to FF6's enormous collection of incredible songs (every major character
them, every battle song especially the boss battle and Dancing Mad, Epitaph,
the opera stuff, Forever Rachel, the Magitek factory theme, the second
overworld them, ad nauseum).

I will admit I do not have as much experience with CC's music as I should.

I always liked FF8's worldmap music. Minimalist, but appropriate and it
loops extremely well.

I think FF6's music was good, and the first one with sound samples that
don't make me want to stab my brain, but CC beats all of the best music of
the FF games combined. It says a lot when a game's music singlehandedly
f****ves all of its flaws for me.

How about the music that plays on the title screen and various Dragon
Chambers?

I swear that if you listen very carefully, you can tell that the entire
thing is a remix of the End of Time music from CT! No one believes me,
but it's true!

And it sounds incredible. The title screen to CC has to be one of my
favourites, with the light shining down on all of the various sea
creatures, and that music playing. I only wish that it wasn't
interrupted by the various demos so quickly.

I think it's pretty damn good. I think it wasn't used properly for the
game, though. For one, not enough pieces to not make it sound repetitive.
I'm not really sure which of his soundtracks I like better. They all sound
pretty different to me. He's definately superior to Uematsu, though.

Am I the only one here who thinks we'd all be better off buying non-RPG
music?

I mean, I've never heard any music in a video game that I've liked more
than the music I'd normally listen to [except for the ice level in Sonic
3, but come on, I was 12]. If you really love Uematsu's compositional
style, um, shit. Get hold of a couple of classical masters CDs of some
variety and track down the composers he's been graverobbing for the past
13-14-15-whatever years [they're better].
