I'm having the same problem. I'm also using the Realtek onboard High
Definition audio ALC880. I'm using driver version 5.10.0.5032. My
only solution is using 2-channel mode for HL2, but 5.1 works fine in
Doom 3 and Far Cry. I don't know if it's an HL2 problem or a Realtek
problem, but it doesn't seem very widespread. Let me know if you find
a solution, and I will do the same.
