EDGE magazine score 10/10

My EDGE mag came this morning. HL2 score 10/10. Only the fifth 10/10 score
given in around 12 years, and afaik the first PC game ever to receive one.
This has tipped the balance; I will be ordering via Steam this afternoon!

I read and trusted Edge for years, but gave up with it about 18 months
ago, when it became too heavily console oriented and its PC review
scores didn't bear any resemblance to the actual games. I hope it is
right on this occasion, but I trust Edge scores as much as I do PC
Gamer and the other rags.

I have no argument with that - it's just there's no denying the pedigree of
their other 'ten out of tenners' - Gran Turismo, Mario 64, Halo (I forget
the fourth) - all seminal gaming.

I enjoyed Halo on the PC, and if I was feeling generous I would give
it 8/10, but there is no way it is 10/10.

Yeah but can anyone really say hands down that Edge wasn't surfing the Hype
wave?....All of those were hyped up to the bollox...

incidentally the 10/10 was for the XBOX version - a (much) later PC specific
Halo review received 9/10.

RE: HL2 Of course it's possible they could be caught in the hype, but IMHO
unlikely from what I have read over the last 3 years subs. Of course we'll
all know for sure very soon!

If I had to play through Xbox Halo or PC Half Life over again it would
be HL every time. Halo's good, but not that good.

As probably[1] the most eager anticipated sequel I've yet to encounter,
I'm not placing a great deal of trust in those scores since I still
maintain that the PC magazine publishers are so in the pocket of the
industry it's silly.

Yup, realistically I would give it 7/10 on the PC. I feel 8/10 would
be fair for the Xbox game for the time it was released.

I am not sure I would give any PC game I have played a perfect score.
Deus Ex is my favourite that I would give 9/10, and that is definitely
a far superior game to Halo.
