Because Halflife 2 is coming closer (16 November), we @ digitalbase
(www.digitalbase.be) started a halflife community website, we bought
several main halflife domainnames
(http://www.halflife-source.com/content.php?content.18) to start an
international halflife community...

The site has been designed & coded, hosting & bandwidth is not a
problem. Now we are looking for experienced staff (language : english).
We are searching for motivated people who are interested in everything
about/around halflife2

This is a list of tasks that still need staff
- newsposters
- reviewers
- articles authors
- graphic designers (artwork)
- forum moderators
- irc / botnet maintenance

the site can be found @ www.halflife-source.com

Make sure your application contains the following information :
- name
- location / timezone
- age
- history / achievments / portfolio

People who are interested can contact me by mail
(snk00sj@digitalbase.be) or by the site contact form.

Greets

P.S. This is nospam, i will be actively reading the reply's submissions
P.S. People who wonder why this post is in english, it's because i need
english speaking crew

<spam snipped>

This is an international halflife community, we don't need another
pointless web forum aimed at making you money.

LOL, well said. Besides, aren't there already half a dozen
English-speaking half-life community sites on the net (+ a
dozen non-english)?

Why would there be a need for a new one?

In the bedlam that is alt.games.half-life

snk00sj [digital.base] proclaimed...

Also make sure you like having news and articles duplicated because some
n00bs don't check the page before they post to it.

did you see any banner in any way on the website ? (it even costs me
money). I don't make a community website to gain money...i have a full
time job...

i don't think you realize how big hl2 will be, do you really think 3-4
good community websites is enough ?

but whatever, some people do not have anything more todo then to tear
down good idea's or well formated 'information' messages, because thats
what this is, i like to give the chance to people who ARE INTERESTED to
become part of a well organised community website

if all 4 of those community websites share exactly the same content,
then it is more than enough.. too much, really.

There are several huge newssites for H-L and H-L2 (planethalflife and
half-life2.net are 2 that spring to mind).. and the main HL2 news on
any particular one is generally available on all... People who visit
those sites go there because they trust the site for complete and
accurate information. so there's no point trying to "rival" other
websites as if it were like a webhits market.

Perhaps your site would be better if it wasn't just another HL2 news
site which has a general overview of everything (since PHL and HL2.net
do that quite well). new sites like this often go wrong by trying to be
too big and cover everything that's already being covered, eventually
ending up without any original or useful content - which at the end of
the day, is what people will come back for.

Take this as a view that may be seen from anyone who visits your site.
At the moment, your site seems to contain nothing that I haven't seen
before (Just from the main page, I see no indication of new or original
content) - that doesn't really encourage me first off to explore the
site and be proven wrong, let alone visit it again - I may aswell go to PHL.

Your challenge, if you'll accept it as constructive criticism, is to
make a site with something *different*. That probably means narrowing
your scope a little to suit a group of people with a common interest
(think of the aspect of HL2 that interests you the most perhaps).. Try
and build your subcommunity before trying to recruit people too.. Then
you will find people who want to be part of your community, rather than
who just want to be part of any old web site that they'd previously
never heard of.

thanks for your point of vision
i realize we have to offer something special to make the people respect
us as a full community website, and i agree there are plenty of sites
right now (with all the same content)...halflife2 isn't released yet so
we don't know what it will become....

i will try to make a site with something *different* or *extra*, but we
are in an early stage, its alot of coding work and takes the dedication
of more then 1 person

thanks for your opinion
