Default hl2.exe - Application Error

"The instruction at "0x241f8977" referenced memory at "0x01fd5c0". The
memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program

=============================

System is:

2.0ghz
512ram
Intel 865GLC mobo
Intel onboard video and audio

I'm curious: if HL2 plays at all, why do I get this error each time the game
loads a new part of a level?

Any troubleshooting tips (besides "Get a video card")?

Thanks

I'm sorry to say, but the problem most likely *is* your lack of a video
card. Most onboard video controllers use system memory, and since you only
have 512MB, that could be what's causing this problem.

You could try setting the details/resolution down lower, but I don't know
what else you can do. The game's physics engine is very CPU intensive, so
the more strain you take off your CPU and RAM, the better the game will run.

You might also try the standard stuff (scan for spyware/viruses, etc.), but
unfortunately, the onboard video is the most likely source.

your graphics chip is using the same memory thats being used when HL loads
up new data for the next level. update your drivers and drop all settings in
HL to their lowest - 640x480 low model, low textures etc and see if its
stable. - if it is then raise one setting at a time and test. easier option
is to get a new graphics card.

Same problem:

Win XP Pro Sp2
Radeon 9700 Pro Cat 4.12
Nforce 2 Mobo with soundstorm latest drivers
Xp 2600+
1Gb Ram

Reinstalled Hl2 3 times, Reinstalled steam 3 times, followed instructions
for crashing on website 2 times.

This is a very widespread problem, if you look at any of the internet based
hl2 forums you'll see loads of people have the problem, just waiting for a
fix atm.

If possible try installing your OS on another disk
Worked for me
That is if you have Steam and your OS on different disks

Run the game with "-window" (without the quotes of course) to start it in a
window. Then, when it stops loading during the blurred loading screen
you'll be able to move it out of the way to see what the error is behind it
(which is the problem now... you just can't see the error).
