Default steam offline, command switch?

hi, if I want to play HL1 I now have to spend 5 minutes clicking cancel on
dial up windows to open steam, before I am offered the offline mode. is
there a command line for steam.exe to start in offline mode immediately?

I don't know about Steam, but you could set Windows not to connect to
the net automatically.

Or, for that matter, some way of making the bloody thing connect at all?

it doesn't connect, it opens a dialup window to request a connect, I have to
click cancel up to a dozen times

that is the first I have heard of no connectability, do you have a corrupted
host file, a firewall blocking steam. obviously you can surf and check mail
so maybe you can try reinstalling steam to get it working. save what ever
gcf files you own before attempting this.

That's what I meant for you to disable - Internet
Options>Connection>Never dial a connection.

You put a DUN shortcut somewhere and dial up when you want to.

Use a firewall (Sygate Personal is my choice) that prompts to allow
access and don't let Steam connect unless you let it.

all this is workable, but there are too many hoops to jump through for
steam, just so I can play offline. I wish there was a command line.

Download a free copy of regcleaner. Its a simple program that lists all
files the load on startup.
Delete the steam file from within regcleaner, it will backup the file so you
can restore it anytime.
Steam will work faultlessly and you can just run it when u want to play it.
