For me, it's Porsche Unleashed... the combination of passing through
time, being able to buy and sell lots of cars, fix them up etc. made
it a great game IMO. They should make an ultimate NFS game that
incorporates all the features and expands on the 'career' bit.

If you can, get Need for Speed: High Stakes. I found a game pack for
$20
called "World of Need For Speed" at a local Best Buy that contains this
game,
and 3 others in the series (Underground, Hot Persuit 2, and Porcshe
Unleashed).
High Stakes has an editor available for it that lets you modify the
existing tracks,
and there are tracks available for it. (see http://www.nfshome.com and
download
T3ED from that site in the "ultils" section under the catagoty "Need
for Speed 4").

BTW: You may have to patch the game first to get it to run (if you get
blue screens,
etc. on start up.) Do a Google search for "Need For Speed: High Stakes
v4.50 patch")

I agree with you - Porsche Unleashed is the best NFS game, although I
haven't played it for a long time

Hi Folks:

I loved NFS/PU, and the online community.

Haven't played it much after EA closed the servers.

Is there an online community left? If so I might
dust it off.

Unfortunately most the PU sites have faded away. I can't even get PU
to run properly on my system. This is one game that begs for a sequel.
But EA has discovered the purchasing power and relatively low
expectations of juvenile ricer fanboys. I doubt we'll see one any time
soon.

I've nothing against ricer fanboys of course. =)

Hi Larry,

There are still a few racing NFS/PU online. We use a little app called IP
Lounge. It helps coordinate peer to peer ip races & has a lobby for
chatting. Still lots of fun, even as old as it is.
