Ok, call it "catchup on" if you will... but IMO catchup ****s. If
you're out of the race you should be out, period... unless you're real
good and actually CAN catch up.

I was cruising around 200 in the Golf GTI (car #4, a starter car) and
my opponent had a Lexus 300... he had a TA and I passed him by about
20 seconds, suddenly he's catching up to me at a rate of 20-30 meters
a second... WTF is up with that? Damn cheating AI...

From what I experienced, the AI catch up mode in NFS9:Most Wanted
is different from previous games. I'm guessing that there's a preset
target lap time based on the blacklist level, since if the AI get
too far behind they sometimes catch back up very quickly.

The main thing is not how fast you run, but how clean you run.
If you spin out, hit walls, or run into barriers, it seems to
penalize you by speeding up the AI cars. If you hit other traffic
cars, this seems to increase the "expected" lap time, slowing
down the AI. The way the AI slow down is subtle, they'll hit
another car, make a mistake, brake for traffic, or just slow
down more than normal.

Don't try to spin out the ai cars, they're next to impossible to
budge.

So the main thing is to run clean and reasonably fast, and
to not panic if an AI flies by and you try to keep up and end
up hitting trackside object.
