I am currently playing Lineage 2 ATM. It's nice but hard to get on, and the
ratio of decent players and griefers is alarmingly low. Hopefully when it
goes out of beta and subscriptions start they will all leave and go back to
cheating on UT2004

I started out on Gilgamesh but went to Siren. A lot of EQOA friends
went to the Siren server. God, FFXI is so close to being great it's
not funny, but it has a lot wrong with it. Perhaps too much. I've been
playing since Mar. 23rd or 24th and I'm going to give it another month
or so before I make the decision to continue playing it or not.

My main beef with the game is the targeting system and the fact that
everything is the same from gear down to to the characters. By the
time you reach high levels, there is virtually noone that stands out
as there is really no skill involved in playing any class because once
you reach the higher levels, everyone knows how to play the game. One
could really stand out playing a tank on EQOA by loading up 3 taunts
and being able to take a bunch of damage and being able to hold aggro
on 5+mobs at once without anyone in your group taking damage. In EQOA,
we could customize are characters by alotting training points to the
stats we choose and stat point allotment is all done automatically in
FFXI. I could turn a Warrior into a damage absorbing tank or a damage
dealer that could take a hit. I guess if I never played EQOA I'd love
FFXI, but so far the only thing FFXI has on EQOA is graphics and being
able to group with 6 people instead of 4. It's sad when I have to make
a Warrior/Monk Taru just to be different, lol.

Who knows, maybe it'll all change when I reach the higher levels.
Square has let me down twice out of all the FF games: MC, which really
wasn't that bad, and FFX-2. So I'm most dfinately going to give them
more of a chance than any other developer.

Even that doesn't make the game good, just slightly less mediocre.

But with no jump button you wouldn't like it even with cat-girls.

Wish I could play that... the PC I am using now is like 3 days older
than Moses with a whooping 2gigs of harddrive. Not 2GB available, I
mean 2GB period. :/ Hopefully I'll be updated by the time EQ2 is
released.

Speaking of griefers, there seem to be many unknowing griefers on
FFXI. By that I just mean inconsiderate players that think every mob
is a race to get to. For the most part, people are willing to help out
on quests, buffs and if you get into trouble and engage a mob you
cvan't handle, but it's a race against other players to kill virtually
every mob in the game. While you can't KS on FFXI, it takes time to
engage a mob if you don't have a taunt or a spell to cast to get the
mob's attention. People that have these abilities will run up and grab
the mob when they know you're trying to engage it. In essence, they
are KSing you but technically there is nothing wrong with this. For
those of us that come from a gaming society where consideration and
respect are everything, this is highly frowned upon... and irritating,
lol. Then there's the whole idea of not being able to have a camp to
yourself that really drives me up the wall, too. Competativeness in a
game is great, but not when you have to compete for every single mob
you kill or you have higher level characters running through a
specific camp killing all the mobs leaving you with none.

How can you say it's mediocre if you haven't tried it?

FFXI is poor.
It adds several game play elements I could most definitely see in other
games, which are quite good, but over all I rate it poor.

I know people who beta tested it. Actually they read this
group. Which Gigatron did you name yourself after?
The PVC that is really Overlord or the other one?
