Well for that matter silly person, PCI and AGP will also 'start to die'
later this year, being replaced by PCI Express. Which will take DX9
with it to the grave!

Q3A will live exactly as long as you want it to. Just like Quake
Classic.

I could never get enough Quakeworld CTF or Q2 CTF, even with the stock
maps! My dialup was poor to start with, but after a few months of
struggling with the 26,400 max connect speed along with more than 25%
packet loss, I was so frustrated I just gave up the modem altogether for
a while. Now that I have cable and a decent rig, I really ought to
reinstall everything and see whaz cookin out there
So...I will!
