Just bought AOE3. The box lists the minimum system requirements as
256 MB RAM
1.4 GHz processor
64 MB Video card

I know that sometimes they overestimate those numbers so the game will
play optimally, but, before I open the box (and break the seal), I'd
like to know if anyone is using this game on an older, not-so-powerful
system. My machine is...
512 MB RAM
1.0 GHz processor
32 MB Video card

Think my WinXP machine will play this game?

It might not run properly with what you bought. Age of Empires III was
designed for the XP Gaming package originally and you need at least a
1.4 Ghz processor and 64 MB Video Card or the system will glitch. I
emailed the Program Manager and he said if you don't have it to
specifications there is a high possibility it will not work. It is the
way he designed it.

Rob, thanks for checking on that. Glad I kept the receipt!

Even if it did run, I don't think you would have enjoyed the
experience. You would have had to turn off all the graphics effects
and run it at the lowest possible setting and it may have still
glitched.
So its good that you kept the receipt Although, its a damn good
game and you should consider upgrading, as no recent game will run on
that machine.

it's running on my laptop: 1.2Ghz, 256MB RAM, 32MB shared video
obviously it's not fast nor high-graphic
