OK, I finally broke down and got steamed, so now I’ve got a few
questions. If I enable the joystick, and use my joystick.cfg from the
original game, the keys work, but I can’t program any more of them.
For instance, I double click on “use voice comm” and then press any of
the joystick buttons and nothing happens. Pressing a keyboard key
will work, but it’s not seeing the joystick buttons in the menu. Any
thoughts as to what I might be doing wrong?

You’ll have to enter the binds into your config.cfg and userconfig.cfg files
manually. Steam doesn’t like my Gravis GamePad Pro, so I had to enter
things such as…..
bind “AUX6” “reload”

Oh, joy, is this an acknowledged bug, and/or is there a bug submittal
config.cfg says not to change it, as it’ll get overwritten, do I need
to just do the changes in userconfig.cfg?

oh yeah? and what did it threaten do to you if you do change it? 😉
the config.cfg is the same as that in the old non-steam …. I have no
idea what userconfig.cfg is for, but editing the config.cfg has always
been the normal way, and Steam’ed HL works in exactly the same way as

No idea X 2.
I put the changes in both and made them read-only.

Umm, it threatened to overwrite it and lose my changes.

Userconfig.cfg replaces the old autoexec.cfg from HL:CS. I used it to add my buy scripts
so they don’t get overwritten in config.cfg. There are more warnings about anything in
config.cfg being over written by the system and not to modify it.
Note: Buyscripts and aliasing are very easy now in Steam. H*** even my bro the phat
trucker can modify them with s******* them all up. 🙂

Make it read-only.
