Default Unicorn

After reading here that a Unicorn exists at a landmark between the
Imperial City and Bravil, I set out to find it.

It was problematic from the start. A few times the Unicorn looked like
it was walking back to it's landmark. I decided to let it go. Well
after a quick travel to a city it was back so I assumed that could
claim it. Wrong!

I have been tooling around on it for quite a while. It is now causing
trouble. I got the book I need to bring it back to Jauffre from the
Mythic Dawn. When I quick traveled to the Cloud Ruler Temple I was met
by Jauffre running. He was going after the Unicorn. The Unicorn
climbed the steps and started attacking the guards. I am pretty sure
that this is bad. I reloaded at a spot before I quick traveled
planning to take the Unicorn back to it's landmark. When I quick
traveled to the landmark there were 3 Minotaurs attacking me as well as
the Unicorn. I could no longer ride it. I have reloaded from an
earlier save and am not sure what I will do. I think I am just going
to buy a horse again and forget about the Unicorn.

I ran into that beast recently. Was roaming the countryside looking for
a specific dungeon and crested a hill to see a minotaur and a unicorn.
They both charged me, they both died.

I now have a unicorn's horn that I can't drop. Tells me it's a quest item.

It is.

SPOILERS

It's for one of the Daedric quests, Hircine, I think. You can get some
nice light armor out of it.

LOL. Sorry, I'm sympathetic, but it is funny.

Did you accidently strike the unicorn? That might explain his change in
disposition.

That unicorn is a dangerous critter. Not some pet. He will attack
anyone who draws a weapon in his sight. Not sure what he's got against
swords/daggers/axes/bows/etc but I suppose he's had it up to "here"
with idiots coming after him for his horn and finally snapped. (Note
some people have reported NOT being attacked when they draw their
weapon but his behavior is such that he is SUPPOSED to attack you, or
any NPC who has a drawn weapon.)

The Minataurs guard his glade. Its a bit of a catch 22. Draw your
weapon to defend yourself from them and he'll attack you. Or leave it
sheathed and try to outrun them.

Since the unicorn isn't an "owned" horse its not terribly convenient to
deal with anyway. He will do his best to get away from you and head
back home the first chance he gets.

This has the side effect of making him almost mage-specific. Kill them
with spells and he couldn't care less.

That is what I thought when I let him loose. The only thing is when I
fast travel, the Unicorn is stabled outside the city just like a horse
I do own.

I still haven't tried to really get rid of him yet. I am too wrapped
up in the story line. I am sure once I buy another horse he will quit
reappearing.

In article <1150488918.128558.290160@h76g2000cwa.googlegroups .com>,
Christina.Robertson@gmail.com says...

As I mentioned in a previous post, the unicorn will turn hostile to any
character, even NPCs, that so much as unsheathe a weapon in it's
presence. Strangely enough, even raising your character's fists is
enough to set it off.

It probably started attacking people at Cloud Ruler Temple because of the
two Blades that are always sparring in the courtyard. They had their
weapons out so... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmxPO...earch=oblivion

According to what I've read in the Elderscrolls.com forums, and I can't
confirm this as I eschew the use of mounts in Oblivion, the unicorn
will remain as your character's mount as long as you use it more than
whatever other horse(s) your character owns. Otherwise, it makes it's
way back to Harcane Grove.
