Default Disconnect extravaganza

We recently started doing BWL with our guild. We are currently in the
Wipestrasz stage and due to weekly reset we had planned to take down
Razor yesterday evening. All was good, the raid gathered up in Grom'gol
for the Hakkar buff, the usual gay jokes were being thrown around and
we set out for Blackrock Mountain.

After enjoying the usual pre-raid PvP fest in the Core we zoned into
BWL. Hence the trouble begun. Between zoning in and the end of buffing
(15 minutes) the most people online at the same time was about 35. Some
people weren't able to stay logged in for longer than 1 minute, others
just had random dropouts. When we finally had the full raid online at
the same time, we pulled the Controller, and the moment out Main Tank
does his usual Combat Cry on teamspeak 5 people disconnect.

We got controller and his buddies down, and started killing legio's and
mages. We use hunters to kite the dragons (we got some very skilled at
it, that can kite about 6-7 dragons each), and blang, both main kiters
DC at the same time. Wipe.

General chat seemed to indicate that other guilds had the same issue,
but as they had BWL on farm status, they could bear through it.

We decided to move to MC instead where we had our MT DC on the first
pull, and cleared it up to Shazz with all the DC's and extra deaths as
an extra challenge. Climax of the evening: Our backup
main-puller-in-training screaming 'Abort! Abort!' over teamspeak,
shortly being followed by an unexpecting raid getting the visit of both
a Lava Pack and Geddon.

Anyway, was wondering if anyone else experienced the same problems on
their server, or was this just an exclusive Lagscalp (as we've come to
call it) event?

Seems to me that if more than one guild triggers on of the mob-heavy
encounters in BWL (Razorgore phase 1, the suppression room, Nefarian
phase 1 and 3) at the same time, the instance server simply becomes
non-functional. Appalling lag, disconnects, mobs bugging out, SERVER
CRASHES, anything is possible. It just does not work.

My guild finally down Nefarian for the first time last weekend.. the
only way we were able to make ANY progress with him was coordinating
with the other guilds in BWL at the same time and making sure that we
didn't start the encounter while one of them was doing Razorgore or the
suppression room. :-(

Cheers!
David...

35 at a time? You were lucky! We rarely got over 30 at a time, and for
once everyone was there and ready and buffed at 20h15. All 40 of us! It
hadn't happened for weeks that everyone was there on time!

We cancelled last night, impossible to do anything....

We had quite alot of trouble in MC too - we decided to skip BWL and just do
MC. Usually we do a full MC in a raid, but this time we only made it to
Shaz. I had 1800-2000 ping the whole time, except when I was in menu waiting
for "that other char with my name" to disconnect.

We usually succeed in filling the 40 man raid, but I rather meant we
had always at least 5 of the raid kicked off the server

While waiting for people's connections to stabilize I read Bliz's
'Battle Plan'. Made me chuckle...

Yep, Draenor EU was scuppered too. Horde side we had 4 Raiding Guilds give
it up and go elsewhere - 2 of which gave up in Molten Core too (mine was one
of them).

So I went farming and picked up two Greater x Protection Recipes

Not just high end raiding is being hurt. The other night on Stormrage we
were doing a 45 min Baron for guildies & about to enter the gate with over
15 mins left on the clock, meaning we were ahead of schedule to win, when
latency shot up to 1500-2000 on all of us & disconnects started. Needless
to say the timer doesn't stop when the server (or it's network connections)
is taking a dump.

It's not only raiding tonight - the whole server keeps lagging out, where
we get stuck in loot position, can't cast stuff, etc etc. Whenever it's
happened to me in the wild I've been hearing loads of complaints on /g
where most of them are in AQ or wherever, so it's the entire server. Gave
up and ran a friend through some lowbie quests, cos it was all either of us
could do - neither of us trusted our connections enough to take on
same-level mobs alone.

It is likely it was the same people disconnecting over and over and some
people in the guild never had a problem. It seems that WOW refuses to work
with any other provider other than AT&T and that is causing issues. I also
see the latency occur on one of the hops in the AT&T network on blizzard's
end. So, it seems that unless routing can be maintained in both directions
from your ISP to and from AT&T, you will have problems with those spikes, as
AT&T seems to be far from a superior provider. In short, it is blizzard's
fault for not multi-homing any of their servers.
