Last night I went slaying gorillas in Un'Goro and was very amused to
loot several empty barrels from them Without doubt Blizzards way of
making a fun relation to Donkey Kong.

Anyone who knows of similar "hidden" jokes?

There are hundreds of hidden jokes, although mostly in the form of
people's names. Such as Blubber Gump who is fishing for shellfish in
Auberdine (from the movie Forrest Gump). Chief Engineer Scooty in
Booty Bay and Jhordy Lapforge in Tanaris (Star Trek, of course)

You can also find Linken in Un'Goro and do a quest to get his boomerang
(Legend of Zelda).

The cooking trainer in stormwind is called Stephen Ryback, which refers
to http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105690/ If you ask a guard for
directions to him they say something like "he's a little too good with
knives for a mere cook"...

Colonel Kurzen for is a definite rip off of Colonel Kurz the Marlon
Brando character in the Film Apocolypse Now. Both live in a cave in the
jungle surrounded by their rebel army.

If I can remember any more I will come back

Since you're in Un 'Goro, look southwest of the camp, and you'll find a
distinct and funny reference to Mario & Luigi from the Mario Brothers
games.

There's a LOT more, threads about this pop up in the general forums all
the time - the WoW designers threw massive amounts of cultural
references into the game, some very subtle, some very obvious.

All Along the Watchtowers is a quest title that seems to be a reference
to a song written by Bob Dylan with a memorable cover by Jimi Hendrix.

Lots. Besides the ones already mentioned, I can think of

- a quest in Un'Goro called "With a little help from my friends" where you
have to escort an NPC named Ringo.
- a lumberjack in Northshire called Terry Palin
- at the Darkmoon Faire you can buy Crunchy Frog

I've seen a ton more, but these are the only ones I can think of ATM.
