I don't think there are any player-made bows in the game. Guns, yes,
but not bows.

I believe the game really is lacking a 'Woodworking' proffesion to make
bows, arrows, clubs, and staves.

Yes, I agree.

But instead Blizzard thinks it was lacking gemcrafter and slotted
items.

Nice idea. It'd need a gathering skill to go with it,

Deev:

A wood gathering profession, with gatherable trees that spawn, is an
interesting idea. More professions mean that professions generally
become more profitable, because fewer people are doing each one. They
would, however, need to introduce wood as a reagent in existing
professions, and if that involved changing existing recipies then that
might be problematic. I can imagine the outcry on patch day when no-one
can make a Deadly Blunderbus any more because Wooden Stock is now a
crafted item and there are no woodworkers yet!

It might also mean that you don't have to carry a stack of Simple Wood
for lighting fires, just ask around if any woodsmen have some you can
buy. Even better, woodcutters should be able to make disposable
friction fire lighters.

What if woodworking was an all-in-one gathering and manufacturing
profession? Balance would be tricky.

And a sand gathering skill to make craft a varied assortment of
glassworks :-)

Might also proof useful for better scopes and goggles.

You could do it without an extra gathering profession; there isn't
one for tailors. You could make the wood drop from Trents (magic trees,
there a few in the game already but not many) much like cloth drops
from humanoids. You then use metal bars and gems to make the finished
article. Of course you would need lots of Trents of different levels
but hay you could make them a feature of the expansion too!!
