Default MC Advice

Hey all,

Recently we have seen an influx of posts about BWL and tactics, which i
have really enjoyed even though i probably wont make it there for a
while... So i thought why not propose to collect a bit of info on all
the classes for different instances. They make a good read.

Unfortunatly im not quite to MC level, so this is a learning
opportunity for me too... just wanted to prompt the topic so, if
interested please, provide some tips and tricks for your class for
Molten Core.

MC is so old that it doesn't really involve many tactics. It's a
bigger, badder 40 man version of the instances that were out at
release. Most of the fights are gear dependant. The reason we talk
about BWL and not MC is because MC is too simple.

For warlocks, be quick, and smart about banishing, use rank 1. There's
really nothing else, you're ranged dps, stand as far as you can and
nuke - dont pull aggro(MD/Ruin is a great MC build).\\

Ive also taken a warrior in there. You'll want to get up to 200+ Fire
resist ASAP. There are a few more tactics you have to be aware of, but
nothing major.
Luci: Use intimidating shout as early as you can so you dont fear the
raid after mind control
Mag: Stance dance to avoid getting feared, if you're dps and not
tanking, stand near his hind legs.
Gehennas/Garr: nothing special here, tank.
Baron: Run out when he starts nuking, if you can get a jump on it
before he starts thats good too. If you're tanking, run him away from
the raid so the nuking doesnt wipe you.
Shazz: Every melee except the MT should be sitting around hitting
"Shoot Bow/Gun" unless you're unbalanced with excessive healing.
Loot pinata guy: Run the priests really far away from each other
Golemagg: Get out at 15-20% and let ranged finish it
Domo: Still no real unique tactics, there's many ways to do this. Once
the leader decides on one all you're doing is tanking or dpsing the
appropriate target. Pay attention to which damage shield is up, and
cease attacks at that time.

Rags: Only boss with any real strats. CT Raid's broadcast should be
turned on, and there's very specific positioning for melee, and they
need to get to their hiding spot when he knocksback. Collapsing quickly
before sons and protecting the casters is also important.

Believe it or not Hornet there are some people that havn't been playing
as long
as you and MC WILL be new to them.

Yes MC is easy ONCE your guild figures all the little things out.
Like making sure to HUG the surgers else they ping pong around worse
then
a superball shot from a cannon.
That there is 3 different types of puppy dogs, fear, stomp and just
plan dps.
That the Fire Lords will drop a small flaming elemental that if not
killed quickly
enough can split into two little flaming guys who can also split and so
on.
That Magmadar has an AOE fear and also frenzy(that can be dispelled
with Tranq Shot)
That Luci has an aoe curse that causes healing to be less and a 2k
debuff that when
it wears off does 2000 points of damage.
That Garr strips all buffs so no real reason to bother buffing right
before fighting him. Or
that he can 'blowup' his little buddies if they are to close to him and
he is feeling especially
fatherly towards them That Shazz blinks to a random target during the
fight.
That Geddon points at someone they can effectivly wipe a raid if they
don't
move cause they are now a living fire bomb.

The point is MC is not THAT old and to some who have never been there
it is completely
new. Tatics need to be learned. Yes you can read all the strat guides
you want but
finding the one that works best for your guild might take some trial
and error. Even if
you find one that works today, it might not work tomorrow because your
raid personel
may have changed and adjustments need to be made.

MC is alot of fun and the fights can be very challenging to those that
this is the next step in progression.

Believe it or not MC has been out since release, it is old, and the
strategies are extremely basic, especially if a guild starts with
something like AQ or ZG - which believe it or not, have fairly complex
strats.

I've played a Warlock all the way through MC, and here's what I have
learned:

Always keep plenty of soul shards. I devote two whole bags to them,
including a big 24-slotter. (I wish you could equip more than one Soul
Bag!) Remember to top off your shards on trash mobs.

Make sure a soulstone is always up on a rezzer. (Not necessarily *your*
soulstone; coordinate with the other warlocks in the raid.) Get a mod
that reminds you when soulstones expire, if necessary.

Earth elemental mobs can generally be banished, Fire elemental mobs
cannot be. So don't try.

Gear with +to hit for spells is very useful, as most of the mobs are
above your level.

For boss fights in general, if you're in the main tank's group, park
your Imp near where they will be tanking.

For the Lucifron fight, summon your Felhunter and use its Devour Magic
ability to help cleanse Mind Control off others, and also to cleanse
Impending Doom from yourself. Be sure it's on Passive. All pets should
be on Passive.

For the Garr fight, summon your Voidwalker, and insist that it and you
receive a full complement of buffs. (Garr removes buffs, so it's generally
a waste to buff for this fight -- EXCEPT for warlocks. Usually the
warlocks will be positioned far enough away from Garr that you'll keep
your buffs.) When your target is pulled, cast Curse of Shadows and order
your Void to attack, and then just keep banishing. When banish has been
up for 15-20 seconds, start chaincasting it; you'll often get lucky and
land one just as the old one wears off. Use Health Funnel to heal your
VW in between banishes, and use bandages to heal yourself. Don't hesitate
to sacrifice your Void if it looks like he's going to die. You can always
summon a new one after the mob is rebanished. After Garr dies, if the
banished mobs are too close together, let one out of banish for a few
seconds to reposition it.

For Lava Packs (Flameguard/Firewalker/Lava Elemental/Lava Reaver), summon
your Voidwalker. Some people use it to attack the target to keep it
busy in case of a banish resist; personally I find that the VW dies too
fast in the midst of combat, and I just keep him in reserve for an
emergency sacrifice. Banish your target ASAP. Don't worry about casting
Curse of Shadows first, as chances are good that you'll just get stunned
with a Pyroclast Barrage anyway. (Lava Reavers tend to resist banish a
lot, so you may want to assign one warlock to cast CoS and another to
banish.) Stay behind the Elementals and Reavers as much as possible to
avoid the Barrage.

Good luck in MC!

Or, use a timer mod like necrosis. Once you learn the timing, you can keep
those things banished more or less constantly. MAYBE your void will get one
hit. And as you said, never forget curse of shadows on any banishing target.
All of the MC banishables like to break early. Shadows helps that, and also
greatly reduces resisted banishings. If you've got lots of warlocks, put
one on shadows duty, and do the first banish the moment you both have the
same target. *

I dunno what you mean by "pla(i?)n dps", but there are five types of
dogs: AoE fear, AoE stun, casting & attacking speed debuff (magic),
fire resist debuff (magic), and reduce int and spirit by 50% debuff (curse).

They also apply a magic debuff that 250 damage per second, silences
you and reduces your damage by 50%.

No - Luci has Impending Doom (2k damage after 10 seconds - magic), and
"all spells and abilities cose double" debuff (curse).

Gehennas has the reduce healing effects by 75% debuff (curse).

He also does an AoE debuff that doubles arcane damage taken, and he
self buffs with a buff that makes him take half damage from magic.

It was there at release.

Ill add a few comments from a priests point of view...

Priests need to spam decursive while killing the two adds, to dispel the
charm that the two adds cast.

.... or fear ward the MT. He doesnt fear that often so 1 dwarf priest is all
you need.
Also hunters need to use tranq shots. Get CTRaid to announce when to do it.

Dont be standing too close to the garr adds when they die, else they will
explode and do a lot of damage.
Shadow prot everyone before gehennas.

Priests and pallies need to decurse here, since he casts a nasty mana/hp drain spell.

If you get agro (use MT's targets target in ctraid) run towards the MT, not away!

Use shadow prot on everyone here too.

If your not meleeing, try and stand with a wall behind you.
Being knocked backwards into lava often leaves you unable to get out, and at
the least will remove your contribution to the raid for some time.

"Bother!", said Pooh, as he read Simon Nejmann's latest post to
alt.games.warcraft.

And the debuff dogs aren't worth using decursive on anyone but your MT.
The FR debuff is negligible if you correctly position so that the dog faces
away from the raid. The Int/Spirit debuff isn't worth curing until after
the fight, the damage is already done when it reduces your base mana pool.
The speed debuff is worth curing, but it has no effect on your tactics.

Fear dogs and Stun dogs can make it *very* difficult for your tank to hold
sufficient aggro, and so will require adjustment to tactics.
