Default Sometimes things just go your way :)

I've hardly played my main lately, got bored of having not a lot I could do
to improve my character (playing a Tier 2 epicced rogue on the test server
didn't help much with that!), so I've been playing my alts recently. But
last night I thought it would be good to bring the rogue out again, and
spent several hours grinding Argent Dawn rep in WPL (as I'm after the 1.11
rewards when they come out) I was tired, about to log, when a guildmate
asks me to help with a quest in Stratholme. Ok, I think, I've got that one
too, may as well get the rep for it, and it'll only take a few minutes.

We did it fast, and when I handed it in I found the reward was that trinket
with attack power against undead - nice one to have, I'd been wanting it
for a while. Guildmate asks if anyone in the group wants to help with the
Archivist quest in Strat Scarlet side; I'd been going to go to bed but
figure I'll go along anyway: Shadowcraft shoulders drop. No complaints from
me about the late night! I also got a Righteous orb, pretty happy as it's
half a Crusader enchant, although my present swords weren't really worth
it, so I thought I'd save it on the offchance something better came along.

Fast forward onto today; there was a guild ZG run scheduled but I didn't
sign up as I'd expected to be out. My plans fall through, I log on and get
asked to join the run. Ok, I think, why not? And I'm glad I did!
Blooddrenched feet drop, I'm the only one who rolls, nice. A bow with 10
agi and 4 sta drops, again no-one else wants so I take (only +1 agi on my
old crossbow but every little counts) Zulian Slicer drops, and I can't
believe my luck as only one other person rolls and I win - not only is it
an upgrade for a weapon but it's 310 skinning (right now I'm flying to SoS
to go and get the whelp scales I need for the +5 skinning enchant on a
spare pair of gloves to reach 315 :-)) And just to cap it all,
Blooddrenched Leggings drop, a druid outrolls me but then says I can have
them - very very nice of him, and I truly cannot believe my luck. Six very
nice blues in two days. Wow :-D

And of course I just had to do it - blew a lot of gold and got Crusader on
the sword. Already love it, that proc rate is very nice indeed and the
heals are pretty useful too. So, that's a very quick transformation of my
character and some pretty big improvements - I actually have almost the
same attack power (as Devilsaur legs had 11 more than Blooddrenched, but I
liked the look of the extra agility too much to not go with the upgrade),
but about 4% more dodge, 1% more crit and obviously a better sword, the
extra skinning skill, Crusader... I'm very happy indeed :-)

Even while I was still in ZG (before getting the enchant) I noticed my
crits jump up significantly after getting the new sword, and after the
enchant I've seen some pretty big figures for me in relatively unbuffed
state (was working with a druid so had MotW but that was all) - my highest
crit was about 100 more than normal :-) I'm just a little happy ;-)

Big grats!

I had had Urbin parked while bringing Sunh and Juran up through the ranks
after had had reached 60 but since 1.10 I have taken him out of the dusty
corner again and improved him a lot thanks to the post 1.10 gold for quests
and my new guild. I can see why your rogue is a happy stabber!

Cheers

Thanks, sounds like you're doing similar things to me - it's great to go
back to my main and get some nice upgrades :-) I'm also beginning to get to
know some more people in my guild better, which is nice, as I'm actually
working with them more often instead of soloing all the time - ironically
that's partly down to playing my alts, as my undead priest is in the Horde
alts-guild of my main guild, and there's only really three of us who play
over there much. Naturally we end up talking on /g a lot, helping each
other out a bit, and we all get along well so now look out for each other
on Alliance too, while before we didn't know each other so well (it's a
large guild and I'm very shy to talk in large groups, as is one of the
other two - we're a lot more relaxed and chatty when there's only two or
three people online!)

And why would you stop reading for that? My guild does have a dkp system,
but it's not used for ZG, because most people are getting their gear from
BWL and AQ - the ZG runs are for people like me who don't raid much so we
can get nicer blues.

What a stupid comment.

Hia

yeah, we also do DKP for MC/BWL/Ony (and AQ40/Naxx when we're there),
but treat ZG/AQ20 as fun and don't do it in a fixed group and so don't
use DKP there.

I do admit it will probably get a bit hard when the head of Ossirian
drops the first time or some of the 18 slot bags or special mounts.
Then again, we try to be mature about it and so hopefully will have
concluded the discussions before the mob despawns

Yup, that's how we do it too - though I have heard of guilds who do
dkp pretty much everywhere, even in UBRS... I pity the officers who
have to spend time keeping track of all that. :|

I advice talking about it now, and not when the corpse lies there
threatening to rot.

We just do "all who need /roll" in those situations - that is how we
handle the onyxia bag and AQ40 mounts as well btw...
Not 100% fair, but close enough - and much less work for the officers.

I heard the despawn time on corpses with loot on them is 30 minutes -
dunno if it is completely accurate, but last night one of our warriors
took a portal out of MC after rag died. Only problem was that he won
the Essence of the Pure Flame, but hadn't noticed that loot was on FFA
and not Master Looter (for some reason).

He then raced back to MC and managed to get summoned back to Rag's
corpse and loot the trinket 20-some minutes after the kill - was some
tense minutes for him on TS (the rest of us laughed though ).

Most guilds have no DKP system for ZG, as is the same for
AQ20. Already managing 3 such systems is enough I think
(MC, BWL, AQ40). Furthermore, doing raids in ZG and AQ20
is done mostly for reputation, at least in the end, and
to get that rep you need to do many raids, thus their
might come a time when you are the lucky one.
Nevertheless, I you join a run and you need only one drop,
and your raid refuses to give it to you but let all others
dice, too, than it might be time for a change.
IMHO, DKP is not needed for 20 man raids.

Best regards,
Bart

Hehe, yeah, my guild just does it on a common sense thing - anyone who
needs something can roll, but it's nice to pass for someone else who needs
it more than you - for example on bows etc melee people *can* roll but if a
hunter wants the rest of us will pass. Though if people really want
something they're allowed to spend DKPs - that's why I was so happy to get
so many items, as I have very few DKPs (they aren't awarded for 20-man
raids), and as a result won't spend them on blues, as I want to have them
available for any nice purples from world bosses.

As for mounts, I believe it's just a random roll, although none have
dropped when I'm in a raid. Maybe one day - one of my guildmates has the
raptor and I really love it; it's a big ambition of mine to get that raptor
one day, although I know the chance is very very low. It would just be
fantastic to be a human with a raptor mount though!

I do use a DKP system. I implemented on our website actually. And
that's probably it for now, for I'm only lvl51.
But then again: You toppost.

Something to consider: You're a n00b :-) (read on plz). Why? There are
more advanced players than you atm. The one guild opening up AQ on our
guild, has MC and BWL on easy farmstatus. They are ready for Naxx. And
probably have a though fight, for the first few days... The don't
consider ZG any challenge and removed it from their DKP system.

And of course: The dkp-system isn't the only fair distribution system
possible. Certain DKP variants aren't even fair, according to a fair
number of people. I know of people just keeping tabs on online-time to
calculate fairness. Main point is a fair distribution system. And by
definition that's one all players agree with. And if all players agree
with a stupid chancy roll, so be it. No point in not reading further
