Default Pond pump (buy have pond)

I have a pond pump that quit working. The motor turns but the
electricity will not cause it to turn. It just hums.

It is an Ebara Pump 1/3hp. Any ideas if it is worth find someone to
repair it or should I just buy a new one.

Bottom posted.

To give you an idea of how much a new (same or better probably better) pump
would cost a good price for a better pump (pentair aquatics seahorse) would
be around $180.00. I hope this helps you decide. Good luck and later!

Default Pond pump (have old)

================
Can you give us an idea of how much it costs to repair a pump? I have an
old one (Versa) I fear may not last much longer as it's 9 years old.

get the impeller out clean the inside with toothbrush, clean the impeller itself with
scratchless scrubby. that may do it, especially if you have pretty hard water they
do slow down. Ingrid

If the motor turns FREELY, but all you get when you plug it in is a
loud buzzing, chances are the capacitor has failed. (If one end of
the capacitor is bulging badly, this is a confirmation). This is a
roughly $10.00 part, replacing it is relatively easy IF you are handy
with a screwdriver. I just checked the Ebara website
http://www.pumpsebara.com, they have extensive diagrams of their
pumps.

ALWAYS unplug it before working on it, test it only in a dry location,
etc. Ponders are scarce, we'd hate to lose one.
