Default Trees and Shrubs for Flowers (sale have bonsai flowering)

Speaking of books, I went to the library today where I found, and
checked out, "Trees and Shrubs for Flowers" by Glyn Church.
Firefly Books 2002. $24.95. I believe I have already seen it on
sale shelves in Borders.

Bonsai is never mentioned, but anyone who likes flowering bonsai
might find this book useful for finding unusual species.

'sustainable growth' is an oxymoron. - Stephen Viederman

I fall prey to this quest as well, but why do we quest so often for the unusual when sustainable trees exist all around us?

Just to have something "different," I suppose. ;-)

Default Trees and Shrubs for Flowers (winter green little)

Kitsune Miko":

My Tree house would be a boring green all winter, if it wasn't for the
different colored bracts that bloom during the winter.... here in
Southern NJ we need a little color in our lives! :>)

Default Trees and Shrubs for Flowers (lady have old winter bonsai)

Yes, I understand this. I use orchids for this purpose. But in my 25 years of doing bonsai, I can't tell you how many exotics I have killed because I don't have the resources (one of them being time the other funding) to maintain these plants. To me it is a bit like keeping a pet tiger. It is exotic, but totally artificial outside its native area. I guess as a lover of nature, I begin to accept and appreciate the passing of the seasons. Now I don't mean to chastise anyone, these are just the musings of an old lady contemplating her winter and accepting limitations.

Default Trees and Shrubs for Flowers (tree winter fever)

Dear Kitsune Miko:
That is the exact reason I want some color in my tree house; to contrast
the snow or rather drab winter outside. Here in the east the winters can
be long and colorless. A spot of color among the greens of my tropicals
(which are certainly out of their natural habitat) keeps me from the
affliction of "cabin fever"! :>)
