Your keyboard and your mouse are plug with USB or PS/2 ?

Unplug any non essential USB or PS2 stuff, like card readers, scanners, etc.
Of course leave your mouse and kbd installed. I found installing Mandriva
that a USB card reader caused install issues, but after install it caused
Abs 2007-08-30 17:25:32
The keyboard is ps2 actually and the mouse is usb.

I have an external maxtor one touch 2 200gb usb 2.0 hard drive, so would
that be the problem? it is the only thing i could unplug from usb since that
and my mouse is the only thing plus my HP color laser printer. Oh, and an
APC UPS too. The BackUps XS 1000.

Ham, you didn’t write anything, hmm…
Abs 2007-08-30 17:25:41
Oh hey, one last thing. if i get it running, i will install it on my 160gb
backup drive, in part, maybe use 50gb or so. then it would be dual booting
into windows and mandriva. so if i wanted to get rid of the mandriva and
only have the windows, would i fdisk /mbr to get rid of the bootloader and
be only windows no sign of mandriva? opr what would be the best way to get
rid of the bootloader and just be windows only and then reformat the 160gb
back to full ntfs?
Bit twister 2007-08-30 17:25:46
If you picked lilo as boot manager the
lilo -u will uninstall lilo and replace with the original mbr contents.
You use linux fdisk to delete the linux partitions and use XP
disktools for formatting.

I would un-plug both for a try, once 2005 is installed plug back-in one
at a time and they should get seen and installed.

It still does not work.

Is the Asus A8n “sli” the dual AGP graphic card setup?
If so that might be a problem?
I’ve seen other A8n with single AGP post as working.
I’m using a 3yr old ABS PC here with Ausus A7V8X-X and AMD XP2600+
non-raid, PS/2 mouse, and Nvidia FX5200 and all works great.
It may be something with RAID, or BIOS, or some hardware is just

SLI is only PCI-E not AGP. It is using raid and also one PCI-E 6800GT video
card. SLI boards don’t have agp.

I didn;t see the original post but I just installed LE for a friend on a
Dell Inspiron 2200. Despite having the correct video driver it wouldn’t work
until I selected “generic” and “vesa” for the video system.
Hope this helps…

No it doesn’t help because you didn’t see the orriginal message from me, but
thanks anyway for trying though. Really, thanks for posting something, that

In earlier versions of Mandrake, you had to either use
a server kernel or set up some sort of kluge to get the
OS to handle 1 GB of RAM. Google alt.os.linux.mandrake
for GB RAM
For LE2005, I think you have to install the i586-1GB kernel
or i686-4GB kernel. The latter is for clustering, I think,
but the standard workstation kernel may not work with 1 GB.
Unix is not user-unfriendly; it merely
expects users to be computer-friendly.

I’m using kernel 2.6.11-12mdk, no i586-1GB designation, on a
P4 machine (iWill P4ES mobo) with 1GB of ECC RAM. After
doing a bunch of I/O to fill most of RAM with cached disk
blocks, here’s what the “free” command says:
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 1035676 843084 192592 0 67276 560220
-/+ buffers/cache: 215588 820088
Swap: 12583856 2776 12581080
That would seem to indicate the full GB of RAM is being
