I compiled a 2.6.0 kernel for a woody machine. The DHCP client quit working
and I was unable to access the network. Script /sbin/dhclient checks the version of your kernel and starts the appropriate client software. For a 2.6.0 kernel it quits with "Unrecognized kernel version". I use pump which works fine. Dunno if that's an option for you,
though. -- --- Magnus von Koeller --- email: magnus@vonkoeller.de address: International University Campus 9, App. 13 D-76646 Bruchsal / Germany phone: +49-7251-700-659 mobile: +49-179-4562940 web: http://www.vonkoeller.de -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQA/5BRTrjA8sxkq93kRAmLmAJ98cvwo3x/Tt6WYy3/6x6SOzbLAUACdE6zr MGGm4JxTyYqpgaO7/8pvlHI= =VHfn -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

* David Sanders (debian@sandersweb.net) [031219 23:05]:
The sarge version (2.0pl5-16) of dhcp-client WFM. (My system's not woody, though). Looking at the changelog, it looks like they removed backward-compatibility (2.0.x kernels) at 2.0p5-12; I'd bet that that's when it gained forward-compatibility. So this would probably mean backporting; the other's posting suggesting pump would probably be an easier course, if it works. good times, Vineet -- http://www.doorstop.net/ -- #include<stdio.h> int main() { puts("Reader! Well I edited the /sbin/dhclient script so that it does the same thing for a
2.6.x kernel that it did for a 2.2.x kernel. All works fine now. Thanks. -- David Sanders debian@sandersweb.net -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-request@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact listmaster@lists.debian.org |
